Split-window design to return on the next Corvette

The C7, a.

k.a the next Corvette, will have a split rear window as on the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray, according to Ed Welburn, General Motors’ head of global design.

Welburn, acknowledged to be the father of the re-born Camaro, confirmed that the next Vette would follow the 2010 Camaro down the road of retro-inflected styling. If you looked at the second Transformers movie closely, there was a Corvette Stingray concept shown that hinted at the design. Welburn said that the split-window is something that he expects for the next Corvette. He explains that visibility isn’t now much of a problem due to the back-up cameras and blind-spot detection systems that are available.

hmm. same here, i tried to post about 5 different things, but do they show up? No.

anyway, i think they (chevy) should go with the split window, but try to keep it narrow, b/c i dont like the thought of trying to look back only to see a pillar in your way.

I've had the same problem posting too. I see all kinds of interesting things but I've given up and no longer try to post anything other than a few comments every now and then. That said, I think the split window is a good idea IF they can keep the intrusion to visibility at a minimum. In fact, I was wondering how much of that technology we saw in the Buick clip could be used here. Check it. Use the rotating glass rods to make a simulated, opaque centre pillar. Then as the car goes above a certain forward speed or in reverse, the rods rotate to transparent.
