Spy Photo: New look at the 2009 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan

Codenamed W212, the next-generation E-Class will arrive for the 2009 model year, with the estate version (codenamed S212) expected for 2010.
Although not much information has been offered in regards to the upcoming fifth-generation E Class, sources are speculating an increase if about 20mm in length. That, combined with a redesigned interior, will offer a more spacious feel to the passenger compartment.

An all-new instrument cluster, along with (07) S Class night-vision technology and an updated Comand system will highlight the interior changes.

Power-wise, Mercedes full-range of engines will be available ? although not all in all markets. The base powerplant will consist of four-cylinder engines with the horsepower rating starting at 175, followed by 6 and eights, diesel offerings, and, of course, AMG's version offering over 500-horsepower.

Much Much more Aggressive.

Looks like the Sport model??

If Not then ..... Wow !!!

Overall, I think this looks great for Mercedes.

Its totally unique and looks nothing like a GS.

Really like the new monster grille.

A Good job updating such a classy sedan.

I'll be very interested to see how BMW updates the 5-series for 2007.

I think it's definitely a nice car but one problem, it look like the new Lexus GS from the front view. You know what they says, if you can't beat them, join them; who copying who now.

Lexus

The 1996 Mercedes E-class was the 1st of the duo to get the quad headlamps.

The Lexus GS blantantly copied them from Mercedes in 1998.

The Mercedes has used this style of headlamps for the past 2 models.

How are they suddenly copying Lexus ???

This just proves the extent of this Lexus vs Everything crap.

Mercedes wouldnt think twice about copying designs from other car companies (especially Lexus)

This car looks exactly as a Benz should.

But this German car lovers or japo haters will not accept it.But suppose if Lexus were there in E's place today, there reactions would be very very differnet,dangerous,disastorous,(3D).

What a bunch of ignorants.

E copied GS,E copied GS.How many times u want to hear But it's true.
Like once(past) i said that don't bash Lexus tooooo much by always saying that they copied MB,they copied MB,they don't have any design of their own,
because one day MB will copy Lexus.AND THE DAY HAS ARRIVED.

Read my previous blog.

It clearly explains who's copying who.

Your ignorance towards cars other than Lexus is laughable.

No matter the car being discussed, your pathetic response always comes down to how much you love Lexus.

Seriously Enough.

Hey JUGNU...if you hate German cars so much, and you love Lexus so much, why are you wasting your time and ours talking about Mercedes?

Just for the record, I agree with theboltski_AUS. It's too far off to see the real thing.

has had four lights in the front since before Lexus existed and even before Toyota was popular. This Photoshoped image may give us a hint of things that may come from Mercedes. So before we all comment on how Lexus it looks or doesnt look, let's all wait until the actual spyphotos and real car come out. The C-Class is the next car out of the stable....let's see what it'll look like (from what I hear it'll be a baby S-Class)

So Mercedes took their design from a 1970s Celica?

Just when you think youve heard it all.

You guys will resort to ANYTHING to make a point.

Heres mine....plain and simple....

Mercedes would never copy anothers design.

Lexus has been doing it for years.

And yes, this isnt the finished product, so we cant judge just yet.

But this looks like the direction Mercedes is headed.

"if you want to get technical about who first used the quad headlamp design scheme, Luke, take a look at the 1954 300 S. This is far before Toyota existed as it does today."

Are those a second set of headlights, or are they foglights? Many cars from that era had 4 lights because the lamps they used sucked back then.

I think this whole conversation is funny. Do people copy each other, or do they just end up designing similar cars? Mercedes looks like a lexus which looks like a bmw, which looks like an audi if you look really close at one of the cars design features.

Still I ask, 2009 that 3 years too late for a e update.

Eurgh this is hideous! I don't hate Mercedes or am obsessed with Lexus, but I have to honestly say that if this was had a Lexus bad and grill then everyone would be saying how crap it was. I love the CLS and R - which everyone hates LoL - so I was hoping that the new E would be hot, not boring like the old 1, or ugly like this 1. But, of course this is just some shitty photoshop that probably - and hopefully - has no relevance to what the new E will look like. I don't know why Autospies publishes them :S

First off, the drawing/sketch/photoshopped image they have is very nice. At a glance I did see a hint of Lexus GS but it is still very distinctly Mercedes. It has the body shape of the new S-class (in which is probably the new 'design' strategy) for the next generation of Benz coming out. It's very attractive and sports a very comtemporary look...

On a side note, off topic, I was wondering how come the new S-class interior resembles the 7series so much? The column shift, and the huge turn nob in the middle where the arm rest is. How come it was so closely designed like the BMW? Was just wondering. Not bashing Benz cause I love their brand.
