Spy Shot: Jaguar XF without disguise
Spies have captured the first photos of a production Jaguar XF in full showroom trim. The car is partially covered by a large cloth, but many details of the car's exterior are visible for the first time ever.

Of a noteworthy nature- the back of the car badge clearly states "SV8".
Now, if I were a betting man, I would bet that this SV8 will fill the higher performance gap in the interim until such time as the XFR 5.0 Liter V8 is ready.
This car, for me, is a source of massive vacillation whenever I seen new photos of it- at times they looked great, at others I was not so sure. These I do like. They have all, of course had camouflage on them, so in the end, I think that seeing it fully uncovered will do away with my ambivalence.
I will say that seems like one big piece of chrome on the back.

Perhaps that engine will be ready in time, the question I then have pertains to whether Jaguar will bump the engines.
This supercharged SV8 it seems is the same engine in the XJR and XKR. I wonder what they will do about that.

I wondered where you were.
I am genuinely impressed with what I have seen in these photos. I really think that is saying something with me simply because I have a tendency to find fault with almost everything.
I really want to see the entire thing uncovered- and I will be making a trip to the Jaguar dealership to see one in person when they get one in.

That is good to hear. I am excited to see the new models, of course, you already know I just can't wait to see the new XJ. I hope I like it, but what I have read suggests that I will.
Last I was at the dealership, they had a black XK, and the friend that cars just don't get any sexier.

The XF looks stunningly beautiful, in both concept trim and otherwise. I think I've finally found the car for my wife, AWD be damned.
The only others she'd consider would be the E350 4Matic and 535xi. I also want her to look at the LS460, but she still hates Lexus...? A8 is boring to me now. It needs to be redesigned. I love the S8, but it's not for her. 7 Series... no. XJ... why, when you can get the much fresher XF? S-Class is too big. That just leaves the rest.

Very sexy rear end, yes.
The trunk doesn't seem to match the rear-3/4 body panels very well, though. You can see in some of the darker pictures that it looks a few millimeters too high. Hopefully fit and finish will be improved for production.
Good move with this car, Jag.

which BMW and Acura? The only reason that I ask is that I think were you compare Ian Callum's designs to those of Bangle, that Ian would be insulted.
He once described Bangle's designs as "shock" and said "We’re not into shock. Shock is about challenging people’s emotions to the point where they’re not quite sure...I want people to look at our cars and say “I like that,” not ask themselves “do I like that or not?”

Okay, I will grant you the similarity with the exhausts. The taillamps however, aren't even close to the same shape. Sure they are longer than they are tall, but that is true of most cars anymore.

I agree. Altough the tailamps have the very, very trendy 'upside down, reverse L shape' found on many new cars, (Audi A4, Acura MDX, Civic, BMW 3 coupe, to name a few)

Definately not anything like the previous retro look yet the back end is very elegant and sophisticated.I even like the the vent behind the front wheels. If Jaguar is able to give the front end that same elegance they have a winner here.

The Cat is back!! After years of lackluster cars, I'm thinking that Jag is being resurrected. All they need is the F-type, and redo the nose of the XK, have a descent player in the XJ, and Jag will be in business.

Jaguar still has a long way to go. The current XK is a disaster, it's good looking for sure but it has lost a lot of the typical rounded Jag styling. It looks too much like an Aston Martin.
Other than that, Jaguar needs a new V8 engine and a new V12 for the XK. Twelve cylinder Jaguars of the past had so much presence and class. Then split that V12 in half so you have a straight-six, just like in the old E-type.

jaguar has also been coming out with some really good looking designs of late on its current models. good, but not great. the jaguar borrows heavily from aston martins but the jaguars lights are very bland and looks like they come off of a hyundia tiburon, toyota solstice or mercury cougar. too angular and unfluid with the rest of the cars. a aston martin with cougar lights. the tailights on the xf appear to look real clean; hopefully the headlights turn out good.
all in all, jaguar is offering some really affordable luxury sport cars with good numbers and performance with its own unique feel that captures its owners.

I'm going to have to call you on that one.
My Jaguar gets a little more attention than I even prefer, but at absolute least once a week someone whom I don't know tell me my car is beautiful or engage me in a conversation about how "there is just something about Jags" et cetera, et cetera.
It is acutally quite funny being younger younger and having such a car. Either people abolutely hate you or are the nicest people to you.

Unfortunatly, speedmaster, I don't think you will be able to get the V8 for 50K. The current S-type V-6 is $49,000, while the 4.2L V8 is $56,500, and the supercharged 4.2 L (the same engine the car in the spyshots has- the R engine) is $65,000. (I wonder what the actual 5.0 liter R will then run...)
So in the end, it will probably run about $57,000 for the V8 - but what is 7K in the scheme of things?

cdoke,
If it is 60-65K like you said, I still think it is worth it. If it looks 90% like the concept, I will love it. Think of it as a poor man's Aston Rapide. I just recently got into Jags last year. I was always a german sedan fan but the Jags have a charm that I can't find in the lexicon.

You know, I remember in particular as a child feeling that Jaguar had a deep and in a way dark brooding mystique. I think it was the feeling that the car itself was the human mechanisation of the animal and that they were connected in a way. You know the hood of the XJ (and the C-xf) is designed to look like the muzzle of a growling cat as it bears its teeth. The exhaust systems are now designed to sound like a growling cat.
I wish nothing more than that everyone could find a car that makes them as happy as my Jaguar has made me. It is my baby. The car is funny in that you become emotionally attached to it like you would a living being. I will not be getting rid of it when I get a new car I have already made arrangements that if I don't have the garage space, it will go to rest in state, if you will, in one of my parents' garages.

Since everybody is so eager to heap praises on this vehicle, i will volunteer to do the critique.
The Rear Lamp Cluster Looks Way too much like those of the Aston DB9 (Only difference is the missing piece of body coloured material present in the DB9) the Power Vent Thing on the side has been GROSSLY OVERPLAYED BY FORD and Jaguar and is now irritating.
I am pretty sure this thing was not designed by a Brit and was designed with Purely American Tastes in Mind. Hence all the usual Copying of anything that already has shown a bit of success. DB9 Lamps, Power Vents (Ford Speak not Mine). All these flaws from just a little peek at the vehicle, I cant wait till the whole thing is released for public view.
The reason i loved the 2002-2004 S-Type was because it was Unique it looked Unique and even though it had the recognizeable Jag Grill, it did not look like a collage made up from previous Jag/Ford Vehicles.
And the current XK is RUBBISH. It looks Good on the surface but time will prove me right, the previous Gen XK was BEAUTIFUL and aged Very Gracefully, this one looks Gaudy and the XKR Mods look so tacky they would fit right in on a Mustang or Camaro.

Yes! Jaguar is back on top. I love that jaguar leaper on the trunk. Classic looking jags are beautiful, but they were not selling. The XF just saved Jaguar because young and old will buy one. It will be the best looking four door car. Thank you Jaguar for sticking to the concept car image. Love that leaper on the rear trunk! That represents 21st century team Jaguar thinking.
