Spy Shots: 2008 Hyundai Genesis

Hey, Guess What?????????????
Hyndai Genesis has bits of Toyota, BMW, Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, GM, Ford, Pontiac, Saab, Lotus, Mercs, Audi, Tesla, Johne Deere tractor, Porsche but what really gives it away for their guilt of copying others is that it has 4 wheels, doors, a hood, lines on the hood, a paint job, an emblem, a trunk and a engine..but besides that..its distintive alright.

We need Matthew the car expert in design to explain to us, how ugly this car is. Please do.

This car pisses me off just to look at it. I'm not convinced that this $30k car is just as good as a prestigious name brand (Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, etc.). I know it's designed to go after the LS, but the LS competes with all of those other cars. I just CAN'T STAND HYUNDAI.

When I saw the concept form, they borrow or stole design from the current Camry, Lexus E350 and Lexus side mirror.

I think a day will come and Hyundai will be a big player. Remember what they used to say about the Japanese cars when they first came out? they were all compact cars, now look where they are, literaly #1.

I also see the Japanese companies reducing their qualities, they're not what they used to be. So if Hyundai plays it right, make good quality cars, reliable and appealing, trust me one day we might be driving one.

But I have to give a hand to Hyundai on the Genesis for not making it a V8 front wheel drive, you can see they did it smart and made it a rear wheel.

So far no Hyundai has impressed me, but lets see how their V8 will be.

Hyundai has definitely improve alot since it came out. Heck! the last I read J.D. Power Associate it was rated higher than some German brands and American brands as well. So for sure in the future, 10 to 20 years from now they will be a force to reckon with.

Can't fault them for trying. If Hyundai succeeds, awesome. If Hyundai fails, no biggy. The important thing is that the company is trying. This is kind of lame but correlates with what I feel: all individuals have the capacity to do great things. If a person wanted to try basketball yet really isn't great at it, there is no reason why he should receive negative feeback. Wonderful discoveries can happen by trying. Imagine where humankind would be if nobody tried anything new and out of their element or decided to give up after a failed attempt. If one were to be bad at something yet wants to excel at it, does it take practice and courage to continue this goal?

Here we have Hyundai, a Korean entity wanting to break into new territory with a small line-up of more upmarket vehicles than the usual fare. After participating in the automotive market for quite some time, shouldn't a brand that has managed to survive against the likes of other affordable makes have some higher ambition? I think so, they owe it to themselves to go out on a limb. Sure, Korea's top manufacturer isn't reknowned for the highest quality stadards whether it be interior materials, sound build quality, to strong driving properties but yet Hyundai still keeps trucking along, attempting to out-do itself each time despite what others are saying; magazine editors, ex-owners, and the naysayers. Until now it would seem Hyundai is suprising the industry and the head honchos are willing to make risks in hoping a couple cars can transform the companies image and audience.

I forget how long the Genesis concept has been in its development stages but I recall it has been the longest of any Hyundai car. Hyundai must be serious about this car because if they weren't it wouldn't have taken them this long and it would have been in production by now like every previous car before it. Yes, the company is entering new territory but to get far in life risks need to be taken, which is what they are doing. If the company gets it wrong, the automotive industry can be less forgiving and trying again might prove even more difficult, especially from a manufacturer who is not highly profitable and in need for an image boost but I have to give it to them for at least giving entry-level luxury a go.

If you look closer at the Genesis, you'll see that the front facia has similar elements also contained in the Chrys Nassau concept shown earlier this year.

It looks like an updated 300 or a stronger Camry with RWD and a V8.

This car, if executed well, will make GM & Chrys look silly. GM for not having a big car with a V8 AND RWD. Chrys for taking too long to make visual updates to the 300/Magnum super-duo.

Most of you who are damning Hyundai probably have never even been inside one, let alone drive one. I own 2, an 06 Sonata LX6 and an 06 Azera Limited. I came out of leasing 6 Acura TL's over the years (we are a 2 car family). I did my research and due diligence and bought these cars. They are , without doubt, the best cars I have ever owned, and that includes the aforementioned TL's, Nissan Maxima, Sterling, Mitsubishi Diamante, and assorted American made cars. When one gets over badge snobbery it's a no brainer. My Azera is every bit the luxury car and is more than competitive with a friends Lexus. Want to pay thousands more for a label, be my guest
