Spy Shots: 2010 Nissan 370Z, the so-called 'baby GT-R'
Spies recently caught the 2010 Nissan 370Z on its way to the Nurburgring for some high-speed testing. The car is starting to be called the ‘baby GT-R’ and you’re probably wondering if it will live up to such an honorary nickname.
Well, let’s take a look. The Nissan 370Z will be a mashup between the GT-R and the 350Z. Power will come from a 3.7L V6 that produces 330-hp - the same engine powers the Infiniti G37. All that power will be transferred to the road via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission from the GT-R. CAR says that the new upmarket coupe will ride on...

I attempted to write my first article about these shots early but who knows what you have to do to get them posted. (I wonder what Omarrana does to 001 to get his articles posted?)
Anyway, here's the link of those much nicer shots than what Omarrana posted. Can't wait to see it in LA next month.

I thank you as well for the link. Much, much better link. I was never a fan of the current Z, but this new design looks phenominal. Could it be released as an infinite? The interior center stack looks like the interior Infinite design theme. Doesn't really matter, either way its going to be a huge hit.

It has some design elements of the GTR but if you take away those elements and look purely at the body shape I'm reading Porsche 911 from the rear 3 Qtr view and side view. The front shape (minus the design elements)reminds a little of a 944. The fender flares are of the old 911 turbo. The slight indentation of sheet metal on the sides of the rear window glass harke to the current Porsche Cayman. Yup-I'd say Nissan is definately going after Porsche.

Right, the Z, Eclipse and Cobalt are all going after Porsche now. Soon they will be joined by Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent in their attempt. I told you...drugs are bad.
This 370Z is a joke. I cannot believe they use that POS engine from the G37 and hope to have success. Nissan is probably the worst Japanese car maker at this time. Their cars are absolute garbage.

Star-Considering that the GTR will beat a Porsche Turbo on just about any track on earth I'll take that POS Nissan anytime over the Porsche. Not that I don't like Porsche. Rather why spend 50 grand for a base Cayman when you can spend 35 grand for a new 370Z. If it lives up to it's billing it should out perform the Porsche in a straight line and approach it's handling as well. What do they call that "bang for the buck"

Econoboxes like the GT-R, 370Z or Cobalt SS don't compete with Porsche because Porsche is about a lot more than just speed.
You don't buy a Porsche to race punk kids driving econocars made by Nissan or Chevrolet, you buy a Porsche so you can enjoy a magical driving experience and the ultimate in car engineering. That's what separates MEN from the boys.
I don't expect however for you or other bubble gum heads to understand that.
and by the way "bang for the buck" is an expression used EXCLUSIVELY by people who CANNOT afford to buy real cars.

The introduction of the GT-R on in the supercar realm has set many on their ear. Liars can't figure, and figures don't lie. The performance of the GT-R is amazing at close to a realistic price structure. I will also include the Chevy ZR1. Look at the tech behind these vehicles and lap times, ease of drivability. Amazing. Tons of articles from all over the world support this.
Porsche thrives on exclusivity, therefore they can justify the price structure. People have need to feel set apart so money works for many. Put performance in the hands of the people and what happens. Performance along with horsepower was once only for those that could afford it. The GT-R and ZR1 threatens this balance.

Look at the lap times at the "Ring" in Germany and official times have been recorded. If the times worked for Porsche during their record times, the same for Nissan. Oh, the ZR1 best the GT-R time of recent. What facts are missing? Explain.

Look Star is totally enjoying himself here. He obviously wants to be buried inside a Porsche so lets not be too hard on his fantasy. There is no question that Porsche makes great sports cars. The GTR,however,is proof that Nissan come a long way up the learning curve in terms of handling and transmission dynamics. They have been able to make a car that will out handle a Porsche in spite of a 300 pound weight penalty. Whether Star chooses to admit it that can only come down to superior engineering and chassis design. Porsche has always had an inherent disadvantage with it rear engine design. They have made incredible engineering leeps to overcome this negative weight balance. However currently the only car that could beat the GTR out of their product line would be a GT2.Perhaps this will change with the 2011 revamp of the 911. The silly thing is Porsche could probably build a superior car dynamically right now if they used the mid engined chassis of the Cayman and developed that with AWD for the 911. Getting back to the 370Z I would say this. In terms of power versus engine displacement Porsche certainly has Nissan beat. The new D/I engine for the 3.4 Cayman S will put out 320 HP in still a lighter car then the new Z. The 3.7 engine in the Nissan is supposed put out about 330 HP but will offer more torque then the 3.4 flat Porsche six.It will really get down to what the 370Z weighs compared to the Cayman. I think it should be pretty close. Further I think the new Z will be "very" competative with the Porsche in terms of driving dynamics. No it want have quite as nice of an interior but that will be offset by a significantly lower price. The term " Bang for the buck"actually means great value for the price you pay. That's exatcly what the 370Z will offer.

I have heard the Z could have up to 350 HP and could also be offered in a V8. It has also been lightened up about 200 lbs and shortened.
"Due to go on sale later this year, likely after an official unveiling at the LA Auto Show, the 370Z will be packing the same 3.7-liter, VQ37HVR V6 found in the Infiniti G37, with output estimated at around 335 hp and 278 lb.-ft. of torque (JDM spec). Best Car spoke with the Z34's Chief of Production, Shinjiro Yukawa, and he revealed that a special edition model is being considered that would significantly raise the performance of the new Z by fitting a V8 underhood."

I'm pointing the lap times. The horsepower if I'm not mistaken has nothing to do with the performance. The point is the GT-R was designed to engage Porsche and as its benchmark, out perform it. The ZR1 was mentioned because as I had stated above, when has a sub-par Chevy out performed any supercar? TopGear just did a piece on the ZR1 in England and loved its performance. Hated the interior but none the less, the performance arena is changing. How is what I stated "immature"?

okay... I was tired when i wrote that one, so it doesn't that much sence... after ..."on the contrary", it should say, that I've said numerous times that 911s are a bit dull... and about the bmws, It kind of seems like i'm saying that because it is bmws it is okay... that wasn't what i meant. What I meant is that I think it is okay to use the same engine in different models (which are actually different)... this however a little bit like the Camry and the EX or the Golf IV / Audi A3... I just don't see the point of making two cars which are basically the same but with different names and badges...

From my original post: "Two of which use the exact same engine, the VQ37VHR" There is absolutely nothing wrong with my facts... get your reading glasses straight friend!
And here is a fun fact for you... The VR38DETT (the dett and the gt-r being the only thing actually linking the GT-R to the old Skyline GT-R series) was sourced from - yep you guessed it, the VQ37... Which btw was used, in the 35 version as the powerplant for a Renault people carrier... But hey... let's not get hung up on facts... right?

If you believe for one second that I would lower myself to the point where I have to boost my own comments you are a complete IDIOT!
My comments are positively boosted because next to the army of retards that has the nerve to disagree with somebody of my stature, there are also some intelligent people.

you calling anyone an IDIOT falls on deaf ears, as your posts are some of the dumbest typed. Bad grammar, typos, zero fact checking and then you turn around and try to convince us that you know alot about cars. Before it was "everyone likes and respects me", and when they got laughed at you changed it to "I only care about the few true enthusiasts, the rest are retards".
And yet you're the one that gets deboosted the most. At least MichaelTaylor posted with tongue in cheek, you actually think you are right, which is scary and delusional.
