Spy Shots: BMW X6 Spotted in White
The Jalops over at Jalopnik received some spy shots from a visitor of the new BMW X6 going under some highway testing in South Carolina. The visitor spotted the SUV or SAV, or whatever you want to call it on I-75 south and I-640 east at 5 pm on Friday.

When the production version hits dealers in mid-2008, expect engine sizes to be similar to the BMW X5 with a 3.0 liter petrol and diesel, as well as a 4.8 liter V8 355 horsepower range topper. The car will go into production next year at BMW’s Spartanburg, South Carolina plant.

BMW has said that most of what we saw in the BMW Concept X6 will be carried over to the production model.

It could be my next car also but only if BMW prices it fairly in Canada i.e. same as U.S. price. Right now BMW cars are horribly overpriced in Canada considering that the C$ is still above par with the U.S.$.

BTW, how come Australia gets proper protective side strips to help prevent door dings? We should get that important feature in North America also or is that a planned obsolescence trick BMW uses in North America to make sure BMW owners hate their cars sooner than later because of all the door dings they get in parking lots?

Enn- WHAT is with you and side-strips? They look disgusting, and only people that shop at Wal-Mart on a daily basis would even really consider adding these atrocities onto the sides of their vehicles.

I own a BMW, but this has to be among the most ridiculous new car (or 'sports activity vehicle' in BMW-speak) introductions in the past 5 years.

This is even more ridiculous than the MB R-class (remember all the 'Vision' marketing gobble that was promulgated before it came out with a big thud).

The X-6 goes against everything BMW purports to be about. The roof rack looks especially silly.

I hate this car with a passion...it's designed by a focus group, you can imagine the responses:
Do you want a large boot? Yes
Sporty looks? Yes
High up driivng position? Yes
The image that you're not a School run mum? Yes
AWD? Why not

Pity they forgot to ask about the styling...ugly as sin.
Who really wants a car with the disadvantages of an SUV (fuel economy, weight, comparatively poor handling) with the disadvantages of a coupe (poor interior room), plus the fact it is very ugly and very expensive (it's going to be more than an X5, you know it)?

At least the R class was practical, even if it looks like a hearse. Plus now you can get it dirt cheap, or in 2wd form and with 5, 6 or 7 seats. Less of that ridiculous AWD off-roaderness. It's an MPV for chrissakes.

I feared that this car would be an absolute horrendous looking vehicle, but it actually looks OK... I agree with some of the other posters that it has no purpose at all though... Except for being trendy with soccer-moms... Which it probably will be!

As a (somewhat) happy X5 owner, I have yet to see a single BMW SUV/SAV look good in white... This one included.

There's just a bit too much black cladding etc going on, and it comes off looking very generic (literally like the old generic labels).

In another color... a Good Looker.

Not that appealing in white. Looks much better in the darker colors.

Shouldn't it be called the X4 or something? Isn't it more in between the X3 and X5? I could only imagine it being called the X6 if it was the biggest of the pack... Someone please show me the light, I'm confused.

It's longer than the X6, but shorter, to make for its "coupe-like" appearance. It will also be more expensive.

Similar to a Merc CLS. It's based on the C-Class, weighs more and is longer, but with less interior space. It's also significantly more expensive. Go figure.

Longer than the *X5*, sorry.

CLS is based on the E class S4...not the C.

Well if its more expensive that will make sense. I just can't get a really good idea of the size of it in all these camo shots. Longer than the X5 but shorter.. Hmm.. Do you really think the market has a big demand for a vehicle like that? I guess it could, I just don't see it.

Ugly in that photo. Loved the concept so much that I was going to purchase one when it came out. Not if it looks like this. I dont like the tail pipes. Why cant they produce the concept. Whats with hyping a car up with the concept then producing something like this???? Yuck!

"0to60" it looks virtually identical to the concept, obviously there's the obtrusive black tape but I still think it looks good in that pic.

And I hope the roof rack isnt standard.

And was the X5 crease that defined on the concept?
