Spy Shots: Hyundai RWD Coupe gets 300hp to rival Nissan 350Z
According to our friends at CarMagazine, sources are saying once again that Hyundai’s new RWD coupe will get the same V8; a 3.6 liter 300 horsepower engine to be exact. That same engine will be used to power the Hyundai Genesis that makes its debut mid-2008.

Hyundai is expected to offer a 2.0 liter turbo as well. The Hyundai RWD coupe will make its debut at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. Finally instead of saying that its Hyundai RWD coupe will take on the BMW 335i, Hyundai has gotten realistic and hopes to take on the Nissan 350Z.

Well seeing that the 2nd Gen Tiburon was a rather nicely executed mini-copy of the Ferrari 456 (especially in profile), I'd say that doing something evolutionary is quite appropriate.

This is what happens when a Tiburon and an Eclipse find themselves sharing an apartment complex carport overnight while indulging in a few too many Zimas.

Yeah but its rear wheel drive so one of them isn't the real daddy lol! Hyundai sure is growing some balls. first the Genesis v8 now this. Watch out Japanese, Hyundai looks serious and they sren't fooling around. Boy are they making a turnaround (again)

Not sure what you mean by "Yeah but its rear wheel drive so one of them isn't the real daddy" as both the Genesis and the coupe shown are RWD. The Genesis has RWD with LSD which is just what I'm looking for. I want the extra winter traction of the LSD without having to lug around an AWD sytem all the time.

85bmw,
To catch Japan, they have to catch Germany first.

This is a big move for Hyundai. In the end i don't think it should be called the Tiburon as a big price increase will be needed. Plus what will they have to compete with the Civic, Golf, etc.

And i don't get this comment "Finally instead of saying that its Hyundai RWD coupe will take on the BMW 335i, Hyundai has gotten realistic and hopes to take on the Nissan 350Z." The 350Z is not far from the 335i performance wise. And the next model will get the 3.7 V6 and more power.

I agree, and as a long-time BMW owner/enthusiast, people really need to 'get a grip' and realize, that there are numerous vehicles on the market today that are as (and sometimes more) desirable than the 3-series...

I, for one, wish Hyundai all the best in their quest!
