Spy Shots: Lexus LF-A Spotted in UK
Lexus is keeping the LF-A pretty top secret. Even though the car didn’t show up at the Tokyo Motor Show last wast week, spy photographers have still managed to catch the car in action and it’s looking closer and closer to the production model.
It is now reported that the Lexus LF-A will have a 5.0 liter unit that produces 500 horsepower with a top speed of 200mph. A hybrid variant is also in the work that will use a engine similar to the LS600h.
The Lexus LF-A is expected to hit showrooms in 2009 carrying at least a six-figure price tag.

midengine, all those foul talks that you said about the gtr. Well you said it "Wait for a real test", well i'll wait because, if Porsche are brave enough to put the 997 turbo up against the nissan, the GTR is going to savage the ducks when it meets the Porsche in a comparison. Take my word, the GTR is going to take down the german arrogance with a swipe.

What type of jackass are you to waste your time on every Lexus thread posting negative comments?

they pulled it back beign it didnt reach its target 220mph...so its under aerodynamic redesign i believe to get it their.
smart move if the car is getting redesigned, we have the concept and it will just flow from that design.

yes, the 200 LF-A's that Lexus sells that year will undoubtedly increase their overall sales 40-50%. Nothing helps you get from 300,000 units/yr to 450,000 units/yr like a 200 unit/year vehicle. Add in the 200 IS-F's and they'll probably grow 100%!!! Wait, that math doesn't sound right...

honestly, its not that great looking. id take any other lexus model in their lineup before i even consider dumping 6 figures on this car. but its cool that lexus is trying to appeal to the performance oriented.

This is how it's going to look, nicad! Notice how it's very similar to the 2007 LF-A Concept, but with camouflage and covered lights!
I agree, LexusKindaGuy... it's not a traditional sports car design. But it's not sexy or beautiful, either. I don't know if I like it or hate it.

"people buy diesels in europe you sore loser. if Lexus hade a LS with a 3 liter diesel europe would be full of them"
No, that's just not how it works. There's an IS diesel... do you see them flooding the streets? No! 3 Series, A4 and C-Class diesels outsell it probably 10 to 1!

I'm not hating, nicad, it's just the truth. Lexus sales won't automatically increase exponentially just because they add a diesel to their lineup. It needs to be a GREAT diesel.

Everyone need to relax, this Lexus LF-A is going to stunning in it final production model. So far we only able to see the Lexus LF-A in silver and black, I think it would look really hot in Yellow or Blue.
Just come, and wait and see, like the GT-R it will blow your mind away with it performance stat. This is Lexus first attempt to make super sportcars.

I hope so. But that image of a yellow LF-A that you put in my head is not attractive. It will look better in darker colors, or more subtle hues like white, gray and black. This isn't a Ferrari.

The LF-A is not going to be a GT-R competitor, let me make that clear to you.
nicad, you need to know something, because you're incredibly ignorant. Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche are the ones that make stupid-fast cars. Aston Martin, on the other hand, focuses on beauty, elegance, ease of use, luxury and the overall driving experience; they don't play in the horsepower war. They don't care if their cars aren't as fast as the competition, because they know they'll still sell.

I'm actually more of a MB fan to be perfectly honest. Although, of course, anything German is better. Not to say that I don't love Italian cars as well. Just something about the Japanese, should stick to what they do best. Cars from 10 - £30,000. That's where their market is.

Really?
Because I'm having trouble coming to the same conclusion. I just can't get around the fact that I simply don't like the way this car looks. It's not pretty. It doesn't make me want to buy it. It doesn't do what the Astons, Ferraris, Lambos, R8s and Porsches do for me.
I don't know exactly what's wrong with it, but it doesn't look sexy or exciting, at all.

I love Japanese cars. But I have never felt Toyota (Lexus), could design a good looking and exciting car. I think that is why they sell so well in the United States. They are conservative and uninspiring and that is what many Americans usually like. But I do not think you can generalize that all Japanese cars are uninspiring. Also, not everything that comes from Germany is top notch either.

Yes, I agree with ashramboy. In case of sportcar business, the brand heritage and the model heritage is more important. There will be no success for Lexus sport lineup. Lexus has more technical issue at the moment to solve:
- competitive 4wd
- style improvement
- smaller hybrid battery, not decreasing boot
- bigger interior
LFA is too early for Lexus. My opinions:
- Hybrid, 4WD, 3.5 turbo combination for IS & GS
- Hybrid, 2.0 turbo (V6) for IS
- Plug in hybrids
- Luggage Compartment 14-16 cu ft at least (for hybrids!!)
- Station wagon IS @ GS
- IS convertible
- IS station wagon SUV (higher suspension, black bumper skirt...)
- smaller modell than IS, similar with A3 & BMW 1
After the above listed improvements and developments Toyota can develop sport car. But this shall be retro, using Toyota 2000 GT design heritage.
