All Mercedes have a family remblance and they never copy any of car company.

On the the other hand, ToyLex are notorious for lifting styling cues from others.

Looks like baby CL with Hyundai Geneseis Coupe rear end especially tailights. Overall looks fine.

CL's market share was always intentionally small. That's called exclusivity.

I hate to say it, but it looks kind of like a CL had a three with a Lexus ES (tail lights) and an Accord Coupe (the lines).

The front is the best part of the vehicle in my opinion.

This is so much better than the 4 door, very classy and hip a the same time. The only thing that concerns me is the interior, if it's like the sedan that will be a deal breaker.

very handsome car. if it handles as good as it looks, it might give the 6-series a fun for its money. certainly wipes out silly cars like the SC.

They should leave the E a sedan only. The coupe looks like a Honda Accord.
If they really want a 2-door, get a CLK.

To say that Mercedes is "always resorting to copying" is very untrue. But saying that Mercedes "never copy any of car company" is also untrue.
It is quite clear that there is a strong resemblance between the headlights in this model and that of the GS from Lexus, and also the taillights seem to have been inspired by the Lexus IS taillights.
It is also true that Lexus has taken design cues from its rivals in the past and I think that this is a perfectly normal thing to do. If you want to be successful, you have to learn from the best. This is exactly what Hyundai is doing right now. Its trying to get into the premium brand market and its doing so by following the paths of the big players in the field.
Nowadays, Lexus has reached a point where it no longer needs to copy from other manufacturers in terms of design and it is considered as a benchmark in terms of reliability.
My point is that THINGS CHANGE!!!!.
No one would have thought that someday Tata would own Jaguar, Porsche would go diesel or that the 'Big Three' would be on the verge of bankruptcy.
So it does not surprise me a lot if Mercedes now decides to take design cues from Lexus.

I think I'll have to see it in person first, but what is it with Mercedes using the Chrysler Sebring side creases??? I thought even the C-Class looked similar in styling to the Sebring. Looks cheap.

The front looks surprisingly good; it maintains MB's edgier design language as of late.

Profile view reveals the CL-inspired roofline, which would look a lot cleaner without that three-piece window. Perhaps it was a lame attempt at throwing off spy photographers.

The shouldered rear quarter panel seems out of place on this car -- it should be reserved for a car of elegance, a.k.a. Rolls/Bentley.

Wrap around tail lights have to go.

I like it. But the affordable models will probably perform like crap. 0-60 in the mid 7's and 16+ second 1/4 mile times. If a Mercedes doesn't have an "AMG" badge on it (or cost over $75,000) then it will perform like a Mazda 6 (read:normal $25,000 Japanese car).

I like the car but I'm afraid of Honda Accords preventing me from merging on to the highway by just giving their Accords some gas. That isn't a problem with cars that actually perform.

Definitely an improvement over the current one, which is just too pretty for me - if there was ever a car for a 50 something year old woman, that was it.

This one seems to look best in black, where you can't see the too-many character lines across the sides from the sills all the way to the belt line. The odd design flourish (I think Impala too, but didn't 1950's or early '60s Benzes have these too?) seems to work better on the coupe than on the new sedan, but I'll reserve judgment on that one till I see better pics and in real life.

As for the whiners about performance - there are always going to be cars that offer more for less money, such as the Accord...get over it. And most of you still don't realize that 90% of the people that buy these cars - all cars like this, in base 6 cylinder form - think they perform beautifully and are perfectly happy.

And the CL is meant to be sold in low volume - that's why it's so expensive. Very hard to figure out.
