Despite its dimensions, the rear passengers will definetely have a problem due to the steeply sloping roofline of the new Bmw. The new X6 will not be equipped for sure with the third row of seats like its older brother, the X5. Read Article

Not the smartest move from BMW as of late, but I trust their judgement. Much better than the POSs coming from Japan (QX, FX, RX, GX, LX).

As much as I love BMW and believe me I do, I still cannot understand the point of this car. I hope it does accomodate the rear passangers comfortably if not its a waste of time, as for the Infinti EX, IMO it does not look good at all, looks like an upscale Hyundai, the FX however, probably the most futuristic looking car, it will still look good 10 years from now. And no us German fanboys are not the smartest and wisest in the world.
BMW needs to get it together, and quickly, I am losing patience with how they are letting the competition catch up in the areas they dominate.

There will be no 4.8 litre V8, but rather a 4.4 litre TT V8.
The petrol engines for the X6 will be the N54 (3.0 litre TT I6), N64 (4.4 litre TT V8), and the S85(5.0 litre V10).

I hope they do put the TT I6 and V8 in there, but why would BMW put the V10 in there if they're putting the turbo V8? Aside from the fact that the two engines will likely produce similar hp figures the torque advantage of the TT V8 fits that car better. BMW is never going to make an "MX6", I don't see the V10 fitting the philosophy of that vehicle.

SevorbeupstryIsBackSevorbeupstryIsBack - 8/17/2007 2:15:46 PM

Not the S85. That's an M-only engine engineered for the M5 and M6. No other BMW will ever have it.

AdmiralT20AdmiralT20 - 8/17/2007 3:52:43 PM
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
There will be an X6M.
The N64 engine will be pegged at the low 400 in both Torque and HP figures

JRobUSCJRobUSC - 8/17/2007 4:43:27 PM
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
X6 M? No way. Maybe an Alpina X6 but no X6 M. The X6 is AWD and based on the X5. BMW has refused to make an X5 M for years and won't even make an M7, two vehicles that would slot against the very successful MB S and ML AMG models and Porsche Cayenne Turbo. They left Alpina to making an "M7" in the form of the B7, and they're supposedly working on an X5 as well. If BMW M won't ackowledge that market then BMW is never going to make an M version of the X6, unless they completely change their philosophy of what an M is supposed to be. And I am saying this as someone who would love for BMW to make an M version of everything. They won't though, they're much more selective than me about what fits their idea of an M car.

JRobUSCJRobUSC - 8/17/2007 4:52:19 PM
0 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
and there's no way those figures stand up for the 4.4L V8 TT. Alpina got 500hp and 516lb-ft out of the same 4.4L V8 engine with a single centrifugal supercharger, and the NA 4.8L V8 already in use makes 360 and 360. The V8 TT has to be a big step over that. My guess is BMW rates it at 440hp and 440lb-ft minimum and it really produces 470-500 in both categories, a la the 300-300 (but really more like 330-340) 3.0L TT.

JRobUSC,

If you remember what I wrote " The N64 engine will be pegged at the low 400 in both Torque and HP figures".
The N64 engine is capable of numbers that better the Alpina supercharged version of the N62B44 engine, but it will be pegged. Like you rightly pointed out, the N54 is pegged in terms of performance, we have seen cases where it can be stretched to deliver 360 HP & Torque.

So why would the N64B44O1 be pegged at the low 400 HP& Torque, because there will be an X6 with the S85 engine called X6-M.
Also note that the S85 will get a power upgrade soon.

JRob, you WANT BMW to make "M" versions of their SUVs? I think that's an incredibly stupid, sell-out idea, pioneered by Mercedes-Benz. I like BMW's philosophy- only make hi-po versions of their purest vehicles. Hence the M Coupé/Roadster, M3, M5 and M6. There should be no others. An X5 M would just be another car for rich soccer moms to pose in.

JRobUSCJRobUSC - 8/18/2007 8:28:00 AM

S4, I want BMW to do it because Cayenne Turbos, Turbo S's, and ML AMGs sell, and I believe BMW could make a class leading vehicle if they chose to. I don't even care if they call them M's, just make some ultra powerful versions of the normal car. You don't think an X5 with a 500hp V8 TT would sell? Or a 360hp X3? If they won't do it, then I want them to allow Alpina to bring over more models like they do the B7. Let them bring over all the exclusive, high performance vehicles BMW won't make.

As for the X6 M, Admiral, I'll belive it when I see it. And I know the V10 is getting a power bump soon. BMW also indicated the V8 TT will be available in the new 7-series, probably to compete with the S63 and making around 500hp (and could make the same in the X6 -- Cayenne Turbo S what?). There's also possibly a 600hp 7-series coming.

You know why the Cayenne Turbos and "S", and ML AMGs sell, is because they're actually appealing vehicles. There's nothing even remotely inspiring about the BMW X5, X3, or the upcoming X6..they're just plain ugly vehicles.

You really should know this, but the Aztecs were a massive, ancient Mexican tribe who invented the idea of chocolate drinks and exploited cacao beans. I don't know why Pontiac substituted the "c" for a "k" in the car's name.

i think BMW is best in class most things they make, but i really dont see the point of this thing. one it looks like a turtle, 2. it looks just like an x5 with a odd roofline for an suv. i was expecting the x6 to get its own styling similar to the 6 series, but in suv form not simply an x5 with a new rear and roofline, BMW please no more vehicles like this. and about the BMW needs to refine its cars thing, thats BS, BMW and refinement go hand in hand, now infiniti has that problem, and a few others not BMW they are the benchmark for all these other companies, so that was just bs comment, read any review on any BMW interiors are not there problems, they are the standards

Yes BMW interior do need refinement, I have spent significant time in all the cars in the 5er class and owned a 5er. The current update on the 08 has helped but it is not near best in class. 04-07 material were not up to it predecessor quality and we worst in class. To see how an interior in done right look to Audi for materials, Lexus for color design and Jaguar for simplicity and sheer elegance.

While the BMW driving experience is best in class, interior design is not, It does not even complete with past models.

i hear you, "expert" opinion saids otherwise, as a person that has owned several bmws, thats not correct. bmw's and german cars in general have improved interior quality greatly over the years, besides that not making sense because which company do you know on this earth that cheapens there cars with each generation none. and lexus for color desighn they offer very few interior colors, and the whole two tone interior (dash, seats) is not a lexus trademark. i dont call black, grey, and beige color desighn and bmw like black top, tan seats that either. while jaguars interiors are elegant if not poorly made, they are not simple to say the least classic, yes, but simple no. that all sounds like opinion. but styling is subjective the fact that BMW is the standard is not

My guess is its the coupe version of the X5, like how the 6 is sorta coupe version of the 5er, but of course they couldn't do a two door SAV, so they made it coupe like as possible but with four doors. I personally don't see the point of it either. Just because theres a market for the 6, doesn't mean theres one for the X6.

Either that or they wanted to be like Land Rover, and create the Regular Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. If that's the case, this design doesn't look too successful, but I'll withhold my judgement until I see it in person!

Honestly! What is the point of this? Let's review:

• It will have the performance of an X5 4.8i

• It will have the seating/cargo capacity of a 3 Series sedan

• It will have the gas mileage of a Cadillac Escalade

• It will have the price of a well-equipped 550i sedan, if not more

• Nobody is going to compete with it, because it's useless

For the price you're probably going to have to pay for this car ($75K), I'd just take a $40K 335i coupe and a used X5.
