Stud Or Dud? 2011 Chevy Volt Pictures Leak Out
These photos of the production 2011 Chevrolet Volt were released moments ago on a media information Web site.
The pictures of the production Volt show all the details we've been bringing you for the past months--along with the GM engineers in charge of developing the vehicle.

What do you want to bet that extra piece of black glass along the bottom of the normal glass doesn't make it for Volt 2.0?
Not bad, not great. Standard "non standard styling for a non standard car" design
Form over function black glass on the trunk... I think they tried too hard, but the real, and only test for this car will be if it works. if it doesn't work, no one will care about what it looks like. If it does work, no one will care what it looks like.

They are called the Executives and Chiefs of GM and they make more money a year than you could make in a lifetime with your 401k.
Moving on, yes it is a sexy car, yes it is stylish. And yes it blows the Prius and even the new Civic Hybrid out of the water IMO.

I get the feeling that these photos really DID leak out. (as opposed to a purposeful leak to create buzz). In particlular, I agree that these are really publicity photos for the ENGINEERS, not the car itself. So the pictures aren't ideal... What do you expect from leaked photos??? Some people just look for things to complain about.
The reason the car looks a lot like the prius is that it needs excellent aerodynamics, and is a sedan... That means the shape of the car is mostly defined by function. It shouldn't be surprising in the slightest that the prius, insight, and volt have the same shape.

I vote for neither. I geuss the prius/insight, shape means something for aero dynamics, which is why this car looks like the other two. So far awhile I expect alot of prius clones all over.
It does have alot of style cues from the malibu, which is fine by me. Esspically in the fit finish department, seems more upscale like.
I'm with big show though, whats up with the nerds of 2009 calander shots? I'd rather see the car better, then geeks in suits.

Im not a fan of chrome either, but it might help give the car a non-platicky look that current hybrids tend to generate. Somehow from a design standpoint Id imagine chrome adds a sense of stability and it also halps the narrow car appear wider as it draws out a viewers focus. But I do prefer a race look (black instead of chrome) which the aftermarket will no doubtedly satisfy.
Maybe my eyes are getting worse but it looks like just a chrome "pinstripe" on the side mirrors with the rest of the volt signage there in black. Less bling then the full chrome on the transformers pics at least.

I agree, not too exciting but nicely refined. Too bad there are no pictures of the side of it without humans getting in the way (I wanted to see a three-quarters shot). I think that as manufacturers design for low wind resistance, all these cars will converge to the same basic shape, so they’ll all look like truncated raindrops. So sweating the details on the exterior will be the differentiator.

these plug in hybrids should take a major load off our individual oil purchases, but we still need more efficient electricity production. this shifts the burden all on utility infrastructure.
we need MAJOR federal and private investment to make this work, but the payoff will be cheap energy for many generations to come.

You do realize there is more cost to producing a car than just sheet metal right? The entire drive train is 100% new tech that has to be researched, designed, and tested from the ground up. I would say that $500 Million is a paltry sum to use for this level of engineering.

Because this is the production version and the other was a concept. The concept had very poor aerodynamics so changes were made to improve this, resulting inthe production model.

VERY DISAPPOINTING! Is this supposed to be the GM equivalent of the Chrysler K car? Volt, the car that saved GM. This thing looks nothing like the concept car except for the side gills that blend into the rear view mirrors.
Just a couple of points. First, it looks more like a Toyota or Nissan than a GM product (look at the head lights). Second, what's up with all the GM execs that wanting to take credit for this thing. Third, where's the photo of this mysterious Korean designer that apparently penned the design?
All this is evidence that it's business as usual at GM. The good-ol-boy network. Let's hope it actually works.

I wish they would have leaked the car in a sportier color like black, yellow, dark blue, or white. Guess its time to break out paint shop pro... Also those wheels are a design loser. They should have done the wheels with the inverted look like the new golf pics where the holes look like the spokes (more aerodynamic that way too).

Pretty new age conservative look. Certainly not offensive but also not going to stop you in your tracks and have you saying "wow thats a nice looking car". It does have a bit of a near future look, and that's a plus...better than a "todays look so it looks dated by the time it actually hits showrooms"
Based solely on looks, '10 Volt VS current civic. Civic is less busy so it gets my vote. I like the exterior of the Prius, but I'd take the Volt's exterior over it.

It looks like a good Prius, Insight Contender. Guys, lets face realty. If they made the concept the way it was shown it would be $120,000 for a base model. Who is going to spend $120,000 for a non-premium non-luxury car, even with a powertrain such as the Volt's? However, I think the Cadilac version they talk about will be more like the concept though. Garbage Motors will have to sell it for $25,000 to make it competitive. Then again there are people out thre willing to choose $50,000 Cadilacs over superior foreign makes for the same price or even less, to show their blinded patriotism.
