Subaru Plans a 450 HP Model for 2009

Japanese giant Subaru is about to get a whole lot more pulling power! This is the company’s new Exiga MPV, caught undergoing testing in California ahead of its unveiling in June.

And Auto Express can exclusively reveal that it could land in showrooms in the UK as early as 2009.

The barely disguised right-hand- drive model has a distinctive sleek profile, with bosses hoping it will appeal to buyers keen to blend sporty looks with people carrier space.

Trading on its rallying heritage, Subaru has also given the Exiga a large bonnet scoop – lifted straight from the Impreza STi – plus a rear spoiler and split twin tailpipes.

Subaru is also planning a turbocharged 3.7-litre petrol engine, with close to 450bhp, for a Legacy STi.

Finally a Legacy that has a proper engine. Not the engine built for its little brother the WRX.

Did like how this article spent the entire time talking about the new MPV and then one sentence at the very end goes 'and oh yeah subaru is building an engine that comprable to nissans new skyline's engine'

I think the LF-A has more identity crisis than this Subaru. Subaru's have been known to be performance (STi). Lexus has never been successful with a coupe before and they call their car a "super car".

More horsepower will not make up for ugly designs and poor built quality.

but it does make up for the AWD and unique offerings that others don't have. only whiners care about built quality in a sports car, its not a luxury car.

Could you please justify the comment of poor build quality? Or, is it just an opinion?

Subaru never builds a sports car, it build world class rally cars, which is IMO, much harder than build a sports car. i am yet to see any BMW, MB, Lexus, Infiniti to build a car that can survive any rally course.

STI, EVO= excellent rally car, great survivability, with great track speed.

Nobody sells cars in the UK with engines over 3 liters lol.

Petrol is a quid fifteen a liter. This thing will sell.

Yeah right!

Subaru's market has changed since the late 90's. Their design and engineering staff arent building just for the Japanese and Europeans anymore. Their eyes are on the US. That's why they finally brought the WRX over to the US. And when it sold like gang busters...it created a new engine (the 2.5L) for the US market. This was the engine everyone was wanting since the 22B.

Same thing happening here.

You might want to realize that there is a whole other world outside the Isle's. Sales in britian alone do not dictate what a world wide industry will build.

This is the Mr. Mom compromise. Dad wants an RS4, but mom wants an Odyssey.

I'll walk before I get into a Subaru or minivan.

This is a good idea. Combining mpv space with sporty power and maybe some handling.

at least japanese ended with that stupid 280 horsepower regulations and they have first effects e.g. GT-R and now 450 hp legacy sounds better than 280 hp
