Subaru of America, Inc. today announced that sales for the month of May were down 5-percent with 17,505 units sold in May 2009 versus 18,436 units sold in May 2008. For YTD sales, the company saw a 2-percent sales decrease as May 2009 YTD units sales were 74,686 versus 76,088 units sold in May 2008.

However, sales for the 2009 Subaru Legacy broke yet another record for the year as sales for the sedan were up 53-percent over last year's May sales.

"Sales of our 2009 models continue to be relatively strong as we gear up for the launch of our new 2010 models," said Tim Colbeck, senior vice president of sales, Subaru of America, Inc. "Even with this upcoming transition, the 2009 Subaru Legacy boasted an all-time record - an increase of over 50-percent in sales from the previous year."

"While Subaru products continue to win awards, the real message behind these awards is that our products are safe, durable, versatile and represent an outstanding investment to our customers. This reassures our customers during this current economic situation that their choice of a Subaru vehicle is the right one," said Tom Doll, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Subaru of America, Inc. "Just this month the 2009 Subaru Forester was named to the 'Best Family Cars for 2009' list by Parents Magazine and Edmonds.com - the award is the culmination of six months of test-driving and analyzing dozens of vehicles, and obtaining feedback from parents who drive a vehicle on a daily basis."
