Subject: 2009 Audi A4 Pricing Announcement

We have been preparing for the entirely new 2009 Audi A4 to hit the US market for months now. The time to announce the final piece of what will make the A4 the top performer in its segment is upon us.

You have experienced the A4’s product superiority when you test drove the 3.2 against the BMW 328xi, the M-B C300 4motion, and the Lexus IS250 in May. You also learned about the most significant launch campaign Audi has embarked on to date.

Today Audi of America will publicly announce pricing for the entirely new 2009 Audi A4 Sedan and Avant. In order to keep you informed as our partners, we are providing the pricing information to you in advance of the public announcement. (Note that pricing for the 2.0 TFSI front-wheel drive multitronic and 2.0 TFSI quattro manual transmission model will be announced closer to their 1Q09 market introduction.) A detailed order guide with full pricing will be communicated to you and published to AIM on Friday, August 8th.

The 2009 A4 launches with a new simplified offer structure concept with three distinct trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. The objectives of this structure are 1) optimized residual value, 2) minimized dealer trades, and 3) simplified inventory management.

This also means that the entry A4, called A4 Premium, is now equipped with many features that were previously optional and typically equipped. The entry typically equipped price is now lower by $450.

Example: 2.0 TFSI quattro Tiptronic Sedan

2008 MY Base MSRP $32,300
- 16” wheels
- Cloth seats
- Power driver seat only
- Std. S line exterior
- 6CD in-dash player
- Dual-zone automatic A/C
Premium Package (Typically Equipped) $850
- Leather seats
- 17” wheels
Heated front seats $450
2008 TOTAL Typically Equipped $33,600

2009 2.0TFSI quattro Tiptronic Sedan
“A4 Premium” MSRP $32,700
- 17” wheels
- Leather seats
- Both power front seats
- Sirius satellite radio
- 1CD in-dash player
- One-zone automatic A/C
- Auxiliary audio input jack
- MMI logic with color screen
- Electromechanical parking brake
Heated front seats $450
TOTAL Typically Equipped $33,150

The new A4 is perfect for the times, with its combination of efficiency, power, and progressive design.
Now you can also communicate the powerful value story inherent in our new pricing and offer structure for the A4.
Also keep in mind these important selling attributes of the ’09 A4:
• New 2.0 TFSI engine with 211hp and 258 lb-ft torque.
• Revised 3.2 FSI engine with 265 hp and 243 lb-ft torque.
• Latest generation quattro all-wheel drive with 40/60 rear torque bias for sportier handling.
• 21 city / 27 highway miles per gallon for the 2.0 TFSI quattro Tiptronic… better than 328xi, C300 4Matic, and IS250 AWD.
• 6.7 seconds to 60 mph for the 2.0 TFSI quattro Tiptronic… better than 328xi, C300 4Matic, and IS250 AWD.
• Available LED daytime running lights
• Excellent interior roominess and cargo capacity
• Unique available technologies including: MMI operating logic, Adaptive cruise control, Audi side assist, Audi drive select, and Audi music interface

I still like new A4 the most, but these price points are making me take a closer look at what else is out there. (Lexus or BMW perhaps). Audi is probably less expensive than the competition, but not by much.

The Lexus IS250 Rear Wheel Drive gets 21 City 29 Hwy which still makes it the best MPG than anything in it's class.....

1. Lexus IS 250 21/29
2. Audi A4 21/27
3. BMW 3-Series 19/28
4. Mercedes C-Class 18/25
5. Cadillac CTS 17/26

You are correct on the Lexus IS 250 RWD - 21 City / 29 HWY.

But Audi A4 Quattro, (which is AWD) is 21 City / 27 HWY and Lexus IS 250 AWD is 20 City / 26 Hwy.

That makes Audi A4 Quattro has the best MPG in its class for AWD.

the new a4 should be better then the current one that is over 30 mpg because the car is lighter and has valve lift

The Lexus IS is gutless and the back seat only has enough room for two midgets. The Audi 2009 A4 is almost as large as the current A6 so it is much roomier and sleeker. I still think the new bodystyle for the BMW 3 series looks like butt.

Did they rename the package levels. My original order sheet had "Standard", "Premium" and "Premium Plus"

I ordered a Premium which had a lot more than shown above. Bluetooh, leather, 6CD HIDs with LED DTRL, etc..

Interesting considering my dealer took an order with a manual for me a few months ago. I wonder if they didn't know.

product superiority.......that was a joke right...because besides the fact it doesnt seem to be able to deliver on performance by comparison to its competition, it is also now thousands more dollars....Not to mention they clearly are pricing this thing directly with the 335i, and C350...and the base models are priced higher than the C300 and 328 so wow more money for a car that still isnt the class leader and on many levels cant match its competition.....another great idea from Audi

Looks to me that a similar equiped C300 4Matic or 328xi would cust $3000 more when compared to an A4 2.0 Quattro Premium Plus. A4 is still a bargain

bmwdrvr the quattro compares with the 328xi not the 328 or the 335
the S4 should be a 335 competitor but expect the S4 to be more $$$

-3 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
say whatever you will but the 265hp 3.2 doesnt compete against the 328i and C300 that makes no sense...that "4cylinder" is the engine that attempts to......yet performance wise the 328i is faster Edmunds got 6.9 seconds for a 265hp 3.2V6.....the C350 with 3 more horsepower got to 60 in like 6.3 seconds and a price over 40,000 as base before options what a waste

Product Superiority...and an Audi in the same sentence lmao...it took them to 2009 to make something comparable to the competition 2009....the current A4 has always been a mid to back pack car with not much reason for buying and you say this new one is superior YEAH RIGHT!, lol

Car and Driver tested the Audi A4 3.2 V6. The A4 took 5.7 seconds to reach 60 and achieved a 14.3 second 1/4 mile @ an even 100 mph. It pulled .89 G on the skidpad and stopped from 70 in only 158 feet.

Yo BMWdrvr....
The 2.0T A4 has more Torque than the 328xi and the c300... it clearly competes against these 2 cars.
It offers more than these 2 cars and is much bigger than these 2 cars while being 10% lighter than the outgoing model.
Don't be fooled... this A4 is a much serious contender than your precious 328xi..
You can't even get sport suspension or active steering on the 328xi..... and you go from Aluminum suspension to steel suspension on the Xi.....
Audi does...

Should be a great car. I would get one, but getting into an 09 A4 from a 04 A4 doesnt really seem worth it. It seems more of a side step than an upgrade, though the current (and new) A4 range has advanced far since my A4.

I would agree completely with you if you were going from your B6 A4 to the B7, however going to the B8 will be quite different!
Try the A4 when the demos come in within the next 2 weeks at your local dealer. I think you will change your mind.
The A4 has the best brakes in its class, out braking the 3 series by a HUGE margin!!!

I just test drove the new 09 A4 at a Audi Driving Event in NH... the braking in the A4 is far better than all its competitors (3-series and C-Class ... based on the poor performance of the IS I have trouble calling it a competitor), so is the turning feel and response. This car is clearly better than the B7 model it replaces (which my brother drives). Understeer in this car is practically zero. Actually I experienced mode sluggishness from the 3 series and IS around corners despite being also new models.

Audi clearly keeps improving while the so called competition has nothing new to show for. I did like the styling of the C-Class and the interior was nice. Engine sound was as nice as the Audi and smooth acceleration but sluggish around corners.

It's much roomier and the power delivery is different. It will also provide much more "status" (for those who care) because of the LED running daylights.

We have an '09 Jetta TDI Wagon with DSG on order.
But if (when) the TDI A4 Avant becomes available, the Jetta may get punted (or at least passed down from my wife to me, for when the weather isn't good enough for 2 wheels)

However, a 335d would be interesting if its big enough inside (I'm 6'5", 230 pounds)
The new A4 is much larger than its competition, from what I understand.

I'm in the same boat as you, Diesel, as far as size is concerned (6'4", 220 lbs., long-torso). I too am considering the BMW 335d, but the interior is a little narrow and the standard sunroof makes headroom a little tight. But first I want to see if I can fit in the new A4. Oh how I wish Audi will release the S4, the 3.0-liter TT diesel, and the 7-speed double-clutch gearbox soon!

I don't understand why the announcement compared the A4 3.2 to the 328xi and the IS250. Well, I guess I understand 328xi since some compare the 335i to the S4..., but I always thought A4 2.0T was meant to rival 328 and IS250.
