Survey Shows GM, Chrysler Below Average in Quality

All of General Motors Corp.

's and the Chrysler Group's brands scored below average in initial vehicle quality, J.D. Power and Associates reported Wednesday.

While Ford Motor Co. had more segment-leading 2007 model-year vehicles than Toyota Motor Corp. in the annual survey, which tracks quality during the first 90 days of ownership, its crosstown rivals stumbled.

All but three of the 11 nameplates owned by GM and Chrysler performed worse than they did a year ago in the closely watched quality survey. The results could hinder sales efforts.

Should anyone be surprised by this result?
The big "3" are known for garbage product line, and yet we can see the Japanese and Germens too trailing them. Compare some old model Toyotas or Nissans, or MB to the new ones and you'll see the difference. The more cars are being build here in the states, magically they're getting crappy quality, which I honestly don't understand why?
If anyone has the answer, please do post it.

"Initial" vehicle quality is a weasel word as it does not prove the long-term reliability and durability of the vehicle. As a consumer I want the vehicle to stand up in the long run at the lowest life-cycle cost. "Initial" quality is a no-brainer to evaluate.

i totaly agree with you,4 example,i own 5 chrysler models,from 1992 till now and i can say for sure i did not have any problems,except normal issues,at the same time my friends had to fix a lots of problems on their audis,mb's,bm's.my cars were;93 eagle vision,98 dodge avenger,99 chrysler copncorde lxi,99 lhs,00 prowler(current),charger str8(current).

I thought last month Wagoner was saying that they were doing such a great job, customer love their products?. And cannot get enough of them or something like that? So what happen?

It shows the Wagoner is one reliable SUV, but I'm not too sure about the rest of the lineup.

EL34, no!, I love it here in OC, the sun, babe and of course the expensive cars. So what Wagoner going to say now?

The only cars that I like from GM right now is the CTS and the 300C and that is it.
