Tesla has had an interesting couple of years. After it stopped producing the Roadster, plenty of people were doubting the success of the company — myself included. But once the Model S started hitting dealers, sales picked up in a big way.
Now you can't go anywhere without seeing a Model S and the company's stock hit an all-time high of $194.50 a share.
Though you wouldn't know it as of late. The stock's taken some losses and the company has been plagued with Model S' that are catching fire.
The first instance involved a Model S that hit a metal object in the road and caused an electrical fire. The second incident involved a Model S that crashed into a tree in Mexico. The latest Tesla fire was caused by yet another metal object in the road.
Is this a wacky coincidence or is there a flaw in the vehicle's design to cause an electrical fire?
Musk wrote a blog at the beginning of October after the first fire and made it seem like it was a highly unlikely type of event. Now it happens, again, in about one month's timeframe. Almost seems like there's an Achilles Heel in the Model S, no?
A fire in a Tesla Model S in Tennessee this week was caused by the car running over a metal object.
The metal object was a tow hitch, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
"The tow hitch hit the under carriage of the vehicle causing an electrical fire," the Highway Patrol said in a statement. "The driver was able to pull the vehicle over onto the left side emergency lane and come to final rest."
It was the third fire in a Tesla Model S in 5 weeks. No occupants were hurt in any of the incidents...
