Tata Nano coming in the U.S. by 2011

As an update to earlier reports concerning the Tata Nano’s future presence in the States, Ratan Tata has now set his own timetable for the car and has marked the year 2011 as the year when the Nano will hit US shores.

Tata’s schedule is reminiscent of its intention to offer the inexpensive and no-hassles car in Europe, of course, after it has revised the car to pass EU crash and emissions regulations.

Tata may also equip the car with some creature comforts. The same revisions are expected for the US-bound Nano, and the Indian carmaker estimates that they can do this in two year’s time. There also some expectations that the carmaker substitute the quite small rear-mounted 0.6-liter two-pot unit with something of more potent configuration.

this car won't compete with the smart car....it'll be way cheaper. As a runabout or a third car it's probably fine. But very few smart car shoppers will look at this thing.

Just what we need to see on the US roads, more golf carts. I guess Mythbusters is going to have to redo the episode where two trucks smash into each other with a car in the middle. I bet using either a Smart or Nano they could get the car to disappear and fuse into the trucks.

Wow... that picture tells me two things.
First, the car really has come a long way.
Second, this car is very easy to facelift, which is a thumbs up for Tata.

It's weird how, despite the Ariel Atom being a track car without a crumple zone, I'd probably feel safer in an Atom with a helmet and a protective suit than I would in a SMART.

A-class, STUPID, Yaris, Fit, Mini, Lupo. All puny little cars that would get crushed by anything that wasn't the same size or smaller.
Don't really care what EURENCAP or IIHS says, my medium sized Jeep will kill anybody in one of those things.

A Camry-hybrid would demolish the Nano. Cars are supposed to be safer, not make it easier for people to get killed.
A Honda Goldwing would probably have a better crash rating than one of these 1/2 cars.

You two should learn that action = equal and opposite reaction and F=mv, pretty basic highschool stuff. A 4 ton Suburban going 50km/h will do more damage than a 1.5 ton sardine can doing 100km/h.

Examples.
Nano t-bones Jeep. Nano slides underneath Jeep and Nano driver gets decapitated. Jeep tips over, I get new Jeep.

Nano does head-on with Jeep. Nano might take out front axle of Jeep. Rest of Jeep flies into Nano driver's face.

Nano does head-on with Camry. Camry engine bay destroyed, driver gets headache. Nano driver's legs crushed, Nano gets tossed back into traffic to be crushed a few more times.

Nano rear-ends Camry. Camry moves a bit, loses trunk. Nano bounces off somewhere to hit tree, another vehicle, or to get runover a few more times.

Camry rear-ends Nano. Nano pushed forward like a soccer ball, Camry keeps on going and commences hitting Nano 3 or 4 more times before tossing Nano back into traffic.

huu, the Indica is a B segment (Accent, Rio, Yaris, Fit, Cube, Versa, Soul, XD, Aveo Sized) car. Tata would never bring something as small as an A segment car here.

The Tata Indica B-Segment Car is good looking, and they copied off Corolla and Accent engines, so it might be half good considering if you expect everything else to fall apart. At $7500 they would have a winner.
