I'll take the amazing Tesla Model S for $50k USD (after $7,500 federal tax credit)

Some acceleration numbers (0-60 mph):

Standard Roadster Model: 3.9 seconds
Sport Roadster Model: 3.7 seconds
Model S: 5.6 seconds

Porsche Panamera S ($100k+): 5.2 seconds
Aston Martin Rapdide ($220k+): 4.7 seconds

So basically, Model S is a luxury sedan meant to compete with the offerings from BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar etc., but the of course the party piece is that, according to Tesla marketing, it will cost only $4 dollars to fully recharge.

This is one helluva deal.

Care to guess the warranty on Tesla battery that costs $36K a piece?
3 yrs. Good luck after that.
And. people criticize Prius' 10yr/150K warranty on battery that costs less than $3K.

This is not a showdown necessarilly, we are still in the expedition days of Electric tech. The early 1900s Electric cars Detroit Electric, etc... were like the Viking days Eric the recd and the Like, where they founf the New World, but just didnt have the tech or the power to get things done. Now Queen Isabella, and King William (Obama and Hu Jing Tao) are pumping in money for exploration, and overhead costs for eploratory companies like Tesla in America and BYD in China.

If I was Tesla, Id create a $15,000-$20,000 Hybrid for mass production and make a killing, so I can use those dollars for R&D to make the charge within the batteries last 3000 miles. Then they can also work on Charging time. Instead of 4 hours to get a full charge maybe they can bring it down to about 30 minutes. By then they can sell cheaper Electric cars.
