The 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class' First Unveiled Photos
Although rumor still has it the 2010 Mercedes E-Class won't be making its debut until the International Auto Show in Frankfurt next year, that hasn't stopped Auto Bild from showcasing the model in their newest publication. In the article, the model is displayed from a number of different angles, all without the masking that up until now it's been adorned with.

Not sure how I feel about it. I like the prominent grill, but from the rear kind of reminds me of a Hyundai Azera. I'll reserve my final judgement for when I see it in person. Or at least get some official pics.

I agree it looks an Accord rear end and a caddy front end.

No quarrel with the look but I see some cheap switches on the steering wheel. Now that the S is grossly overpriced, I hope they have the good sense to clone the S-class seats for the new E to make sure the new E sells well. The super-comfy S-class has rather unique seat adjustments including independently adjustable seat cushion length for BOTH front seats. Lexus: note that Mercedes gives you identical features and adjustments for both front seats.

I def have to agree the front end looks good. But the side and the rear look way to squared off. That rear end reminds me of a Hyundai Sonata.

The Current BMW E60 5-series looks better then this.

From what I see from the spy pictures, the interior to this new 2010 E-Class looks to much like that of the new GLK Mercedes-Benz SUV and in my opinion that's not a good thing.

Well let me be the first to say that you are going to have alot of people saying it looks like a GS in the front and a Genesis in the back along with some S class from the side profile. And they would be correct but what I am hoping is that these same folks would give MB a break and realize that Hyundai and Lexus copied them first and this is just an evolution of a previous design.

It doesn't matter who copied who at this point, the end result is that the new E is very boring.

I don't know about boring 43LE but it definitely looks out of proportion and way too squared. The wheels look like they came out of a sporty toy car, and the nose almost looks like they belong to a poor relative of Rolls Royce when looked at from the side. I rather not elaborate on the rear for the same exact reason that I don't make comments on Hyundai's or Kia's posts.

I especially like the back end, the front of the profile seems unfinished or like they designed it mainly for front on appearance, but where it has its flaws is the interior. Looks like we went back 20 years. blocky center stack with an old steering wheel with rounded buttons? Should be all curvy or all blocky in my opinion, center stack just doesn't look great.

Even when you say something good about a Benz you still get deboosted. Look what kind of reputation you've given yourself. You're doomed!

I'll wait until the final product and then decide. Cars tend to grow from the 2 to midlife of the cycle for me. I wasn't sure with new C but have learned to appreciate it. The new CL i thought was a little awkward looking but it's bold, beautiful, and the most luxurious coupe in the luxury market that's not a Rolls or Bentley GT (although it looks very at home beside one).

The new E-Class should bring refinement and traditional Mercedes luxury. I may not agree with their design strategy but heck, what can we do? Car evolves so will our vision of what a nice car is.

I'm not feeling the MB interiors in their latest models. They seem to have cheapened the look with that "bling, bling" aka Infiniti look.

I do respect their engineering though, and the front end has killer looks. The back end looks like a Honda Accord though.

Side profile is OK..

All in all not bad, just need to work on the interior so their interiors do not start looking like the cheap "bling, bling" lexus and infiniti models.

You're basing your interior comments of a poor quality scan? I would wait until I see the car in real life before making my final comments on the interior.

From what I can tell the interior looks well made and the materials are definitely acceptable for a luxury sedan. Again, I would have to see the real thing in order to be completely fair, but so far it looks good.

I inspected the new C Class interiors and they look and feel much cheaper than previous MB models.

I had a 2002 MB C Class and the interior was far superior quality wise than the new version. The plastics and wood treatment on the new models just seem OK.

I feel that MB is trying to woo over Lexus buyers with the "Makeup" and "bling, bling" look.

I prefer the MB's of old that look and felt solid as steel.

Funny, my wife drives an '08 C350 and I find the interior to be of very high quality. Black plastic and darker materials do not automatically mean "cheap". Besides, if you'd inspect the panel gaps in the W203 C-Class interior and the ones in the W204 you'd see a superb improvement in workmanship and build quality.

The current C-Class interior is not cheap at all. It looks perhaps a bit boring and bland compared to the competition, but cheap? No.

Quantum,

Are you sure? I took a spin in the C350 and the C63 and the interiors were far superior than the old plastic and wood in the old C-Class.

In terms of the interior *looking* cheap (or "bling, bling"), that's very subjective.

But in terms of the interior feeling cheap or being made of cheap materials...I definitely disagree that MB interiors are getting cheaper, in fact, in my experience, it's the complete opposite. I was very impressed with the improvements they've made when I sat in the latest C-class.

Unlike Lexus, Mercedes has familiar styling cues on most of their cars. If this car were shown to me without the logo, the grille would easily give it away as a Mercedes.

Guys, if you want to see some hot interiors you need to check out the new BMW's.

The materials are on par with Audi which to me has some of the best interiors in the world.

What is really impressive on the new BMW interiors is the new electronic shifters and the organization of controls. They are very logical and everything feels like it would last a lifetime.

Michael,

What Mercedes Car class that has better interior than the Lexus Car Class?

Each car Lexus interior has outbeats anything in it class....

The LS interior is better than the S-Class
The GS interior is better than the E-Class
The IS interior is better than C-Class

Even the ES interior is better than the E-Class

kthorkthor - 8/15/2008 4:50:26 PM
+3 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Silver1, I will concede that Lexus uses more chrome-look plastic and metallic-sprinkle plastic most any other brand, but to say that equates to superiority is just ridiculous. One walk through the boom box section of Wal-Mart and I have had enough of that look. The problem in my view of the Japanese interiors is that to give the appearance of more value to the people who are moving from one of the Toyota or Nissan models to a Lexus or Infiniti is that they need to add more buttons. The buttons-per-dollar ratio has to be compelling. Then add more shiny/twinkly surfaces and you just about have it. The established Euro brands like Mercedes aren’t marketing to a demographic like the Japanese brands and the aesthetic is at an entirely different level which may be mental jump for some.

0 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
that mercedes comment was a joke lol......it wasnt until the current model S class that they started fixing its interior issues for years the complaint has been the cheap plastics in them from the c class to the s class....the cls started to turn that around but mercedes and great interior quality have not always gone hand and hand.....while BMW on the other hand has always had high quality interiors....honestly not exciting, very traditional, and devoid flashiness(and style in some cases) but always high quality...read comparison test or review of them...

Silver:

While Lexus interiors are nice, I find them too much alike with Toyota interiors.
The IS, GS, LS, LX, Highlander, Camry interiors all have the same basic design and share many parts. The only difference is the quality of plastics used and the amount of wood. Heck, the same digital clock on the Corolla can probably be found on the LS.
Mercedes interiors on the other hand are classy and resemble nothing else on the market.

Interiors:
S>LS
E>GS
ES=C<IS
SL>SC (by far)
ML=RX
GL>GX (by far)

Well explain how Lexus wins #1 year in and year out on JD Power in Initial Quality.....

Plus it's built to last....

If some fake plastic looks better than some other real interior and looks just as good and I say daring to the human eye, and yet is it's last longer because it's built to last, Why would anyone choose the real one? Just to say it's real and it will fall apart days later?

komododavekomododave - 8/16/2008 4:21:41 PM
+3 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Silver,
Quality has nothing to do with how something looks. JD Power doesn't not evaluate the look, only how well its put together. You can have the nicest plastics in the world, but if the design isn't good or looks outdated, then you still lose.

Some of us prefer "substance and quality" over "cheap plastic bling, bling makeup".

BMW interiors are on par with Audi and far superior to Lexus, Infiniti and Acura.

The control stalks or levers on Lexus are lifted right off of Toyota corollas. They look cheap, feel cheap and are cheap. I owned a Lexus for about 6 months and traded it in on a BMW because it felt and looked so "cheap".

I'm not a big fan of plastic either, but everyone uses it... including BMW. I remember test driving a 335 a few months ago and was shocked at how crappy the interior looked. Handling and performance was great, but really even fully loaded it did not look anywhere close to a 50k car. After getting back into my wife's IS, it was like night and day. The Lexus interior definitely looks far far superior to the 3-series, and the BMW's nav and i-drive are crap compared to Lexus' touchscreen. That being said, the BMW is likely using higher quality plastic. I would gladly pay an extra 3-5k if I could get all the plastic in a luxury car replaced with a higher quality material (stainless steel, brushed aluminum, etc.).

I agree. BMW interior isnt the greatest. Audi and Infiniti interiors look nice. BMW's are dated, especially the dash display. The same orange style they have used since the beginning. I think its time for them to switch it up some. The quality is better in German cars however the design and looks are better in Jap cars. The X6 however is getting there! The interior is pretty nice. The 3 and 6 just does not look that great. I cant comment on Lexus interior quality however the interior in my older model lexus has held up really well and it doesnt look dated.

This are bad low res pictures of a white car, White cars tend to look dull in photos. I dont like the rims on the car and feel a denser wheel would suit the car better.

The pictures are so bad you cant really even tell the details of the interior and you already have people saying its cheap.

As to how the rear looks like a Honda??? I dont know. It looks to me like an evolution of the old E-class W210 (1997-2002) rear end instead.

Benz should've kept the E round, the body moulded quads made it instantly recognizable (I won't mention '94 Celica or Integra).

Now people will have to squint and try to decide if its a GS or a C-class.
