Just a few years ago, production cars with more than 500 horsepower were extremely rare, with the players limited to not-terribly-practical rides such as the Lamborghini Murcielago and Dodge Viper.

Today there are at least a dozen brands that offer a U.S. production vehicle with 500 or more horsepower, with prices starting as low as $40,930—the base MSRP of the V8-powered 2007 Ford Shelby GT500....

Does anybody else feel that the Mercedes wasted it's AMG name on the R63? Who needs a minivan with 503 hp?

I think it's a waste for MB to slap in a beautiful AMG engine in an ugly vehicle but what can we do?. When i first saw the R class I thought Chrysler Pacifica. Ugly Ugly Ugly.

I love sleepers and after driving lame caravans, odysseys, and the likes I would much rather buy my wife an R63, debadge that sucker and toast 95% of cars on the road while taking junior to school as he watches his sponge bob.

We underestimate Hyundai, their new lineup is looking pretty fresh and ready to tackle on their expensive competitors. I think Hyundai will start making more damage to toyota sales than GM and Ford combined.

I'm sorry but when you start getting 40k mustangs in the 500hp club its no longer that exquisite or exclusive. I think the new benchmark is 1000hp (thank you very much Bugatti!)

Well the thing is a 500hp hunk of iron 800 pounds to fat. I think it should be a 500hp+ and under 3300 pound club that should be relished. The reason why I think the McLaren F1 with its 627hp(na mind you) and 2500lb should have been manufacturers goal for the last 13 years. Pretty much the saleen s7, enzo, and koenigsegg have been the closest to this formula, though 2 of these are no longer na and one is barely under 3200lbs.

I think 500HP is now considered performance cars, 700 HP is the new realistic mark, a la 400hp a decade ago. Super cars will have 800+hp
