Three years ago the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport surpassed the SSC Ultimate Aero for the world's fastest production car with a top speed of 267.8 mph (430.98 km/h), but now it looks as though the Veyron Super Sport will be stripped of the title after several allegations.

Guinness World Records decided to look into those allegation that were brought up by the folks at Hennessey Performance and Driving.co.uk, in which they argued that the speed limiter was removed from the Bugatti during it's world record run, making it faster then same production car that consumers pay for because the production cars are sold with speed limiters.

Guinness World Records state, that the record must be set in a car that is mechanically identical to those on sale to the public but all 30 production cars are limited to just 258 mph (415 km/h). No longer does the record go to the 267.8 mph Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

“As the car’s speed limiter was deactivated, this modification was against the official guidelines. Consequently, the vehicle’s record set at 431.072 km/h is no longer valid. Following this, Guinness World Records is reviewing this category with expert external consultants to ensure our records fairly reflect achievements in this field.”
