The Irony! McLaren F1 Driver Alonso Moves To Ferrari For $40 Million
News of the World, a British tabloid, is reporting that Fernando Alonso, the two-time world driving champion who stuck a knife in his team’s back before the FIA, will be driving next year for Ferrari, at a price of $40 million a year. Perhaps the transition will be easier for Alonso, as he’s already familiarized himself with some of the secret characteristics and design features of Ferrari.

It was Alonso, now with McLaren, who brought the heavens crashing down on that team, according to reports from last week. Alonso threatened that he would reveal incriminating emails to the FIA if team manager Ron Dennis refused to name Alonso the number one driver on the team. Dennis, either in an act of honesty or a move to preempt Alonso, informed the FIA himself. That brought about the renewed hearings that resulted in draconian penalties against McLaren, but not even a lash with a wet noodle in the direction of Alsonso, who stands a good chance of winning the driver’s title again.

What base treachery! Thanks Alonso!
I think he felt he could cheat on McLaren and feel he couldn't get punished b/c he was going to Ferrari. His jealousy of Lewis Hamilton really started it I think.

They paid him $40 million dollars a year to drive for them, wow....! I wish I had a job that paid me $40 million dollars a year.

What a lucky bastard!

Wow, I didn't see this coming. I figured Alonso would be going to Toyota or BMW or someone smaller so he could be "the man". Good luck being teammates with Kimi.

I had no idea Philipe was going to Toyota, that's news to me. Should be an interesting weekend, this weekend, and a REAL interesting next year. Something tells me they'll be paying Hamilton a little more than his current $400,000 salary. :)

I hate to see Massa leave. Will it really matter? It's looks as though Hamilton will be on top starting next year.

Please...you don't know what the News of the World is like...this could be complete fabrication. I haven't seen it in any news items elsewhere.

LOL, this is complete bull crap. ITS A TABLOID FOR GOD SAKES! The british tabloid just wants to stir rumors that he will be leaving mclaren because they are probably pissed off that he is messing with lewis and hes fighting against his own BRITISH team.

Okay,

Now that I've had a moment to get over being totally pissed off, I've come to realize that this is probably a false tabloid rumor. It does sort of make you think what if..............

I'm not sure about others in the F1 fan base, but I for one, am not an Alonzo fan. Never have been, never will be. I have however, been a huge Ferrari fan since the 70's. I would really have a hard time dealing if this fodder ever panned out to be true. If Maranello ever hired this guy, I would seriously hang up my flags for as long as his career lasted with the team, which probably wouldn't be very long if Kimi has anything to do with it. Remember the Senna-Prost McLaren years? Childs play compared to the "NASCAR-like" nudging and bumping that would inevitably occur between the two of them. Come to think of it, the interview at the end of the race would be the only Kimi interview that wouldn't drive me nuts!

As much as I can't stand his voice, I still love the "IceMan". Who else can you name that can party like a rock star one night and win SPA the next day!

This isn't just tabloid rumor. This has been a rumor running around the paddock for some time. I stated that Alonso was approached by Ferrari in one of the earlier Mercedes-McLaren F1 topics.
