A debate over whether embattled General Motors Corp.

CEO Rick Wagoner should be removed heated up again on Monday even as Congress proposed a short-term industry bailout designed to keep the automaker from collapsing by year-end.

There have been several missteps on Wagoner's watch, but there are ample reasons he should stay at GM, analysts say.

Wagoner, 55, has amassed a long list of hits and misses since being named CEO in 2000. On the plus side, he has slashed $9 billion in costs, overseen a push into emerging and profitable overseas markets, landed landmark concessions from the United Auto Workers union, rejuvenated product development and narrowed GM's quality gap with foreign rivals.

I think the Auto Czar should do for the Wagoner what we do for our subordinates in the Army. He should be given guidelines/goals to reach that are realistic, he should have a timeline to reach said goals and be told upfront what the repercussions will be for not meeting guidelines/goals. Meanwhile, he should only make $1 salary until the company is once again competitive. I still think GM was starting to go in the right direction, but they really need their feet held to the fire. I'd replace Chrystler's CEO and give Ford's CEO similar parameters to GM's.

How bout combining all of the Big 3 articles each day. I know all of this stuff is breaking news everyday but geez, must it flood the site . You should make a special section just for big 3 news and update that section regularly. Im for 1 tired of hearing about it!

Honestly the problem with that is that most of these articles are released throughout the day...

But with that said in the morning it might not be a bad idea to have one article with several links.

Great suggestion because this news for now won't stop anytime soon.

He might have hit more than he missed, but at the end of the day, he did not do what needs to be done in the first place. And that is long term planning on evening the playing field with their japanese rival carmakers manufacturing in the USA.
