The Top 10 Best-Selling Cars of 2008: Ford F-150 still no. 1

Automakers have reported their final sales figures bringing a close to 2008 vehicle sales.

While it was a rough very year for American automakers, the Ford F-Series and Chevrolet Silverado held the no. 1 and no. 2 spots on the Top 10 Best-Selling Cars of 2008.
As KickingTires points out, even after high gas-prices the top performers haven’t really changed. Toyota’s Camry came in third place with a total of 436,617 followed by the Honda Accord with a total of 372,789. The Toyota Corolla came in at no. 5 with a total of 351,007 while Honda’s Civic followed in at no. 6 with 339,289.

Well, first of all the F-series and Chevy Silverado are not "cars". Pickups and cars should be kept in separate categories for any "best selling" or "top ten" listings. You cannot compare an F-150 to a Camry - it doesn't make sense.

they are simply ranking top selling VEHICLES. any one with 1/2 a brain will recognize the trucks in the mix.

ford has claimed (rightly) that the f-150 has been the best selling vehicle in america for decades.

and toyota can rightly claim the camry is the best selling CAR in america.

When most people think cars, they think enclosed transportation that is not considered public transport. whether it is a truck, convertible, or plain sedan.
I love when people on this site bash the F150 saying that it is worthless and they should stop production. Clearly there is still a demand. I cannot believe people buy Camry's still!!! My friend works at a Toyota dealership and he said they are junk. He sells them ebcause it is his job. all of the technicians complain because they come off the truck with problems. meaning poor paint job, disconnected wiring that they have to fix, failed break systems. but, stupid americans keep buying them.

What "people" are you talking about? Your "enclosed transportation" explanation does not make sense. What is your definition of "public transport"? Are taxi cabs not considered cars? They can certainly be considered public transport. Buses also. Boats are "enclosed transportation" - they are not cars. Cars are cars, and trucks are trucks.

I love the F-150. It is a real American man's truck. I certainly would never "bash" it. I am indifferent toward Camrys.

And they still lead the league
Get used to their excellence
Some things never change
People want Camry
And the F-150

True the quality of Toyota has fallen the past few years or so, but not all of their vehicles warrant such bashing, let's be fair. As most can see from my post, I'm very domestic focused, but I give credit where it is due. The Yaris, Corolla (Matrix) and RAV4 are outstanding vehicles. Would I purchase them, no. I sold cars in the past and tested all types of vehicles. Toyotas are becoming the butt of quality jokes of late, but like others they will realize it before they hit bottom.

The F-150 is the best Truck hands down! And Inspiration7, toyota has slipped a lot in the last 8? or so years! Google engine sludge, Toyota Corolla or Matrix and pages upon pages appear and they even had a class action law suit against Toyota for this poor quality! Now google engine sludge Honda Civic and not one! Why anyone would choose a corolla over a civic defies logic!

can you get a v6 sub 3 litre version with 4x4 and full interior equipment?

What about 4 cyl diesel, something around 3.5 litres?

This would enable ford to sell them in Europe I guess

People are free to buy whatever type of car they want. In the US, if the domestic cars don't appeal to you, why would you buy it?

What's funny is that alot of people buy Japanese and Korean cars b/c they actually employ people here in America. But people are free to buy whatever they want and can afford, there's no need to bash them for having something you may covet.
