It's one thing to turn a two-seat sports car into a 13-second quarter miler, but quite another to pull off the same feat with a two-ton-plus aerodynamic brick of an SUV.

That doesn't mean it hasn't been done, of course. The horsepower-crazed engineers at Mercedes' AMG tuning house are especially adept at it. So when you're living life a quarter mile at a time getting the kids to the soccer game or making it to Home Depot, there are some options out there, most with fire-breathing V-8s. Yeah, we know, big, hulking, gas guzzling utes aren't in vogue, but we just couldn't resist writing up this list. Behold, the top ten fastest SUVs we've ever tested

Apparently they never tested the 2004-2008 Forester XT. Car & Driver got 0-60 in 5.3 seconds/13.8 1/4 mile. The slowest I saw in the manual version was 0-60 in 5.8/14.2 1/4 mile. Oh, well, perhaps this month they decided the Forester was a wagon.

The mojority of this list are imports, so you see there are just as many import suv's or more but the Big 3 gets bashed for making them.

Why is it important that SUVs have fast 0-60 and 1/4 mile times? Do people actually buy SUVs for their speed? I am not an SUV guy, so I don't quite follow the perspective on this. I can understand an X5 or Cayenne needing to post respectable time/speed results, as the brands are known for speed/performance, but would I really care if my Trailblazer was fast off the line? Would I really pull up to the line next to a sportscar or even a sport sedan in my SUV looking to see who was faster off the line?

I love doing this w/my Forester. Am I the only one?
I see some 50 year old douche cutting through traffic in a Lincoln LS V8. 1/2 mile later we find ourselves next to each other at the light. Hell yeah, I'm gonna rip him a new one. Best part, the guy never sees it coming, as my car is the ultimate sleeper. I love doing this to ultra-loud Harleys even more!

I'd actually like to a couple of OEM Foresters (or other SUVs) go at it on Pinks! That would be a cool race. I'd actually like to see some 50 year old douche in a Forester leave in the dust some 18 year old in a POS Civic.

Surely they tested the Typhoon back in the day. If C&D got 5.3 seconds, then MotorTrend would have had it in the list as well if they tested it.
