The car Volkswagen SHOULD bring to the U.S.
Czech carmaker Skoda has taken the wraps off the long-awaited Superb, aimed at the upper medium segment. Like most new cars, the Superb has grown considerably over the previous generation and is both longer and wider for additional interior space.

I'm thinking that this might do little more than 'cannibalize' Passat sales if sold in the U.S., and it's not like the Passat is flying out of showrooms in record numbers.
Additionally, it's not nearly as good looking or nicely equipped as the Passat.

DROOPYSAKK: exactly my thought. The first Superb wasn't a really good deal, why would this be? Why would you buy this and not a Passat?

"bootlegged" my ass but I will admit that the Genesis will probably be more desirable at a lower price.

Kinda like a fit between the failed Phaeton and Passat. I guess this would fall into the category with the Nissan Maxima, Toyota Avalon, Ford Taurus because it seems to be a bit larger than the current Passat. But given that VW is already more expensive than most of its competitors in similarly equipped cars, it would be another flop in the US.
What VW should have done is given us the new Scirocco that is was developing.

No, it's a cheaper car than the Passat, although a bit bigger. It uses older engines and parts to save costs and isn't as luxurious.

Ahhh, thanks for the input. I guess people think this should come to the US then cause it is a more direct competitor with the Camry and Accord than the current Passat? At least that's my guess then.
Since the Jetta is no longer a small car compared to it's old competition like the Civic, Corolla, Sentra. It was always a tad larger, but I miss the styling of the last gen. It held to the Jetta's heritage and this redesign just turns it into a baby Passat.

I'm not impressed with the design. The best thing about it is the great 1.8 TSI engine.

Its not bad looking.Perhaps with VW new vehicle architecture they will produce somthing like this in the US.Damm-Why won't they bring the Sirroco in.The R32 is over weight and does not come with a manual. And why do you need 2 performance Golfs? The Sirocco is lighter and would get better gas mileage.

This is cheaper than the Passat... it has no place in VW's lineup.

Who are you sticking up for? the manufacturer or the consumer? I'm for anything that can undercut the Passat's price. BTW, I drive a leased A6 Quattro and will be looking for a replacement in May 2008.

Rather than bring in another model to compete with the many that exist in this segment, how about returning to a successful venue whereby one could get a TDI as an option. How long must we wait before we will again see a hatchback Golf with the TDI?
