The future of the Audi R8 lineup
If you’re an avid fan of the Audi R8, you know that full-LED headlamps isn’t the only thing Audi has planned for its amazing supercar that has done wonders for the four circles brand.

First Audi will launch an RS8 next year that will be powered by the 5.0L V10 TFSI engine from the RS6 Avant producing 580-hp (160 more than the current R8). The car has been confirmed by Audi’s powertrain development manager and was recently spotted at the Nurburgring. The Audi RS8 will feature larger front and side air intakes, a shiny chrome grille and oval exhaust tips.

Audi will then drop a convertible R8 in the second half of 2009 which will be available only with the...

Damn this is a sexy car. The only why I'd be able to afford on now was if they had a sub-base model with the 2.0T engine of the A4 lol.

Is the name of the car confirmed? RS8? A little confusing considering the RS4 & RS6 are front engine sedans...wouldn't you think a high performance A8 would be named the RS8? They should just stick to R8 and give it 3 engine choices - V8, V10, V12TDI

Regardless, I would take either the V10 TFSI or the V12 TDI (preferably the TDI) in a heartbeat.

I would rather see it as R8-S and R8 TDI

It will be R8 V10 not RS8 and the horsepower rating will be 530 and not 580. The R8 does not need that much horsepower to get under 4 secs.

Wrong. The engine isn't from the RS6. It's a 5.2 liter producing around 525 hp. Similar to the LP560, but probably detuned.

The name has not been confirmed, but will likely not be RS8, as that would imply it is an RS model of the A8. It will most likely just be R8 and have a V10.

You are right, the engine is not the RS6 Bi-turbo. It is a completely different V10 designed by Audi. It is not related to the RS6 engine. No bi-turbos. Normally aspirated and the same RS6 or S6 engine.

How about the twin-turbo V6 TDI?
That would be good for 5-6 second 0-60 with 40+ MPG

Then you can have your cake and eat it too! :)

(I don't need 500 HP to follow semis down the road at 20k under the limit, like today's Vancouver traffic)

RS8, RS-8 it doesn't matter. Either way the car will perform spectacular.

Why be jealous? Myself and everyone I know with one has the V10 on order too. That's like being upset you got a Gallardo or a 430 when then SL and Scuderia were coming. Everyone knew it. We just get both.
