The 2006 Aston Martin Rapide concept unveiled at the 2006 Detroit Motor Show is certainly a stunning sport saloon, but take a look at where the idea originated. This is the original Lagonda Rapide saloon (Lagonda is the ultra exclusive sister brand to Aston Martin), Lagondas answer to Bentleys Flying Spur Continental model of the 1960s. According to the Aston Workshop, only 55 cars were produced between 1961-1965 and it’s said to be the favorite model of former Aston Martin Lagonda company owner David Brown. The Rapide’s all aluminum body was styled around a Aston DB4 sports car and crafted by Touring styling house, but used a DB5 straight six for better performance.....
