The prettiest Cadillac in modern times just around the corner?
We all know how much better the new Cadillac CTS is than its predecessor

Night and day.

And it’s a much better looking car than the previous vehicle.

But sources who’ve seen this next Caddy in person tell us that it is the most beautiful car Cadillac has produced in modern times.

What is it?

It’s the upcoming Cadillac CTS coupe.

It’s only a Stingray Studios photoshop image for now (although we say this will be pretty darn close to what it will look like) but do you think it will have what it takes to challenge the BMW 3-Series coupe, Infiniti G37 and upcoming Lexus IS coupe?

Don't forget, the SEMA auto show is right around the corner!

The cts coupe is what I plan on trading my 06 on, as long as everything looks great.

The new CTS is on my shopping list also, as a replacement for my leased A6 Quattro. The only thing I did not like about the CTS is that its battery is in the trunk -- oh well, at least that is better than Audi's approach years ago when they used to hide the battery under the rear seat.

Audi has a superior AWD system however and, for that reason, I would get the CTS with RWD and LSD only. GM has used the Torsen differential in some vehicles and I cannot understand why the CTS was not given a Torsen center differential for its AWD system.

I'm pretty confident GM will do good with this car in every category. Though they shouldn't take too much time before releasing it because this car will do lots for Caddy's image.

^ Lexus has certainly made aesthetic strides, but...

There's not a modern Lexus available that can match the balance, power, synergy and over-all elegance of the 2008 CTS.

Whatever the Caddy design team was smoking when they came up with this beauty, I hope they never run out of!

The CTS looks great. L-Finesse isn't a styling theme. It's an ambiguous afterthought to help Lexus obscure their warmed-over jumble of borrowed styling cues.

No, G37 will out M3 them all when the 370Z engine gets installed.

If they can make it look as good as the CTS-sedan, it is going to be an awesome looking car!

I'd say it looks NICER, but pretty certainly isn't a word that comes to mind. A G37 or Lexus RX is pretty.

...and those wheels do not fit the car AT ALL. It's looks like the car lost lost a fight to a Subaru WRX STi.

Might challenge the G37 or IS, but certainly not the M3. The M3 is on a whole higher level.

"A G37 or Lexus RX is pretty."

G37 = hot (like a hot girl- but not elegant/sophisticated)

RX = boring

Photochop guys can keep the rear valance..totally rice and does not fit into the rest of vehicle. I wonder waht the aftermarket group has for the CTS? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I like the CTS for being original, unlike the G37 and GS with MB CLS and E-class headlights respectively. Looks more classy than pretty. Will younger buyers be into it?

Yea, the rear valance looks AWFUL!

This is a piss-poor photochop. The real CTS Coupe will be a stunner and have proper taste, unlike this ugly hackjob.

If Lexus doesn't come out with a IS Coupe, i might consider the CTS coupe or the 135i coupe.

But really what gets me, is if there will be a CTS-V coupe? So, that would basically be 500-600 HP? And would that be a M6 competitor, being that the CTS sedan is larger than the 3 series and is more of a 5 series competitor.

Exciting times for Caddy, now if only Lincoln could revive itself...and produce a true "Hot Rod Lincoln" in the guise of the Continental series.

Who the hell cares if Lincoln dies? Cadillac is an American icon. The suicide door Lincoln Continental from the 1960s is also an American icon, but other than that, Lincoln has always played second fiddle to Cadillac.

Pushrod27, my favorite Lincoln was the 1956 Premier. I used to dream about it. More recently, Ford neglected Lincoln and basically let it slide down the toilet. The Mercury Grand Marquis is essentially the same vehicle at a much better price. I had three Grand Marquis between 1992 and 2001 and finally gave up on Ford altogether and returned to Audi. As for Lincoln vs. Cadillac, Lincoln used to be more elegant in the eighties and nineties when Cadillacs were pimpmobiles with fake wire wheel covers and stupid fender skirts. Things have changed now and the new CTS is on my shopping list.

As a consumer, I want Ford to keep the Lincoln, give it a 300 h.p. DOHC V8 engine and big cushy comfy living-room seats and sell the whole package at the current Grand Marquis price. Mercury can then disappear as a brand.

Our guess is they will do the old Eldorado/Cadillac 16 Coupe roof cut technique on the roof of the final design of CTS coupe, to harken back to their glory days heritage.

What about the Mercedes CLK, 001? Audi A5? The Lexus IS coupe isn't even in concept form- nobody knows if it's coming out. But you seem to "forget" some key players in this segment. Or are you just a little biased? Trying to stir up a flame war?

In fact, yes, I do think the CTS coupe will be able to compete.

I firmly believe that the CTS, in all it iterations, will be stunning.

It brings the entire Art/Science design theme clearly into focus.

It was so cool today when I saw a 2008 CTS at a stop light next to a 335i, and the 3'er simply looked too small, too fussy, too Asian and too inelegant to even compare (aesthetically)...

I'd take an old Eldorado Biaritz any day. Cadillac should bring out an accurate RWD reproduction powered by the 300 h.p. DOHC NorthStar V8 in combination with an efficient 6-speed automatic.

I'm led to believe that the CTS V will have a 6.2 litre pushrod V8 shared by a future Corvette. I'd rather see the 300 h.p. DOHC NorthStar V8 in the CTS V.
I'm also keeping the V8 SRX on my shopping list as that way I get the NorthStar engine and RWD with LSD as standard equipment.

SpectatorSpectator - 10/12/2007 12:17:56 PM
+2 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Out of curiosity EnnNorak, why would you want the 300hp NorthStar V8 in the CTS-V when the top of the model CTS comes with a Direct Injection 306hp V6?

Maybe the supercharged LC3 found in the STS-V but not the base Northstar with rougly the same power you would get out of the Direct Injection V6.

Maybe caddy will update the LC3 and have it pushing 500hp.

Truthfully, I always liked the last generation Eldorado, and even today, it looks far less dated than many of its contemporaries, and would take but a new front end to bring it in-line with Cadillac's Arts/Science design theme.

Why is it when Cadillac (or any American car company) does a modern interpretation of their past designs, people criticize, yet others do it without complaint?

Cadillac was once considered the Standard For The World, and with the 2008 CTS, they seem on track to regain that prestigious title... Especial in design.
