This Should Be Fun- What Auto Brand Do You HATE The Most?
If you're a regular reader of AutoSpies.com or any other car website (i think there are others) you're used to everyone grabbing on and lauding and defending their favorite brand or brands.
So for today I thought I would be interesting to turn the tables and just have some plain raucous, unadulterated fun and talk about the brands you HATE the most.
Before we get the mudslinging started, PLEASE DO NOT just type a brand name and that's it.
EXPLAIN WHY you made your choice and what is it about them that makes you HATE them soooo much!
So, I'll start the battle with my choice.
ACURA.
Why?
Because I've never seen a company with more resources and more potential blow it SO bad, time and time again.
Their executives are the quintessential old school dead thinker types that wrecked the American auto companies.
Their PR people wouldn't take a chance or do something innovative if their lives depended on it.
Yes men (and women), ALL of them.
Their dealers invent ways to piss off new AND repeat customers with things like- Mud flaps, rustproofing and lojack come on all of our cars, so you HAVE to take it in the butt whether you want them or not.
EVEN if you order from the factory and SPECIFY NOT to add them on.
Why don't they just be honest and say we need to butthole you for an extra grand because corporate doesn't give us enough margin on the cars?
And then there are the cars....
Have you SEEN the new BEAK?
Can they REALLY be serious?
It would be one thing if their cars weren't good performing, reliable products.
That has NEVER been an issue although the RL is one of the WORST modern day cars I have ever driven.
Gorgeous interior, class leading electronics but with an exterior design that makes Kia's look exciting.
And the design of it is getting WORSE over time!
Are they EVER going to get the message they going the wrong way?
I personally would LOVE to see them return to prominence and bring out some great products.
But looking at where they are heading, that's NOT looking promising!
OK.
That felt GREAT to get that off my chest.
Are you all ready to vent your vermon on your most hated brand/brands?
I want to see it SPEW.
I want you all as angry as a Hillary Clinton voter is against Obama for slighting her...
Let's have at it!!!
And remember, as Chrissy Hynde of the Pretender's said... It's a THIN line between love and hate!
We promise you won't HATE our photo galleries!

LexusKindaGuy12, I believe this is meant to be some kinda survey which includes comments from regular haters and some new readers. Anyway, for me its Ford and Lexus for different reasons and not necessarily in that order.
Ford because I gave them 3 chances to get it right with different new Mercury Grand Marquis that I drove in the nineties and early his century. I had problems with seat comfort, rust, and paint, including an oil pan that rusted out two weeks before the warranty ran out. The clearcoat on a blue car turned blotchy white and ford refused to repaint it, hiding behind the warranty expiry. Seat comfort problems were at the extremes of too mushy and too firm.
As for Lexus, they are overpriced and have some shortcuts. The RX used to have a proper matching alloy spare in a proper wheel well inside the vehicle -- the spare is now underneath the vehicle exposed to winter salt and mud. The big LS tried to clone the S-class front seats but failed to make features and adjustments identical for both front seats. Even the LWB model with the rear lounge seat and ottoman has that feature on one side only -- unlike the Maybach which Lexus tried to clone here, they ended up with half a car.

I hate Hyundai because Koreans eat dogs. Dogs were bred to be campanions to people. They form strong emotional bonds to people and they can be intensly loyal. Torturing, slaughtering, and eating them is just wrong. So I avoid sending my money to Korea.

Honestly? It changes everyday.
Sometimes BMW because of Amazinbimmer (even though I own one)
Sometimes Lexus because of Silver1.
Sometimes HonAcura because of HondaJapan.
Although there are some brands I would never buy from, I don't hate a single brand. Its only when fanboys get out of control I get somewhat annoyed.

Well, I used to like Acura very much. I had a Legend back in 1994 (great car). But recently I just can't stand them. They've just fallen so far behind the competition. They don't have a "premium" look to them at all anymore and look like even uglier versions of Hondas. Acura's recent designs make me regurgitate.
Once a top Tier-2 brand, now a brand I've lost all respect for.

I AGREE, audirevolution!
I never really liked Merc's 'cause of their poor quality, and I realized that I hated them even more once my Merc friends began bashing me.
I never really liked Bimmers 'cause, honestly, I never understood them until a few years ago. BBUUTTT, When I finally bought my 2002 730Li, I cursed to myself for all the biased things I've said 'cause I felt like a fool...very embarrassing.
I LOVE Lexus, but their lack of excitement in new models has made me really irritated. Even more, when the other Lexus fans began to talk nonsense (I know Lexus has its limits), it makes me really ashamed to be a Lexus fan.
I guess biased minds are really what messes up our world, but it's also that which keeps our world moving (That's why I joined AutoSpies). :)

001,
I do understand and agree with your perspective of Acura. It's a total shame what is happening there. But, no one auto manufacturer should be full of more shame than our own General Motors. It's long history of selling deadly junk to our own American public is horrifying. Their history of fighting ever effort to design safety into their automobiles and resisting efforts to recall those vehicles that were known killers far outweighs Acura's design idiocy, IMHO. And, for all those years that GM was the world's largest auto manufacturer, what example did GM show to the world? Talk about Acura wasting potential? Think about how much potential GENERAL MOTORS wasted! Their history is so tragic, it is beyond words. So, if you really want to select a manufacturer to genuinely hate... I'm afraid it would have to be GM.
Regards,
TagMan

BMW. I have owned one, and had a lot of fun in it, but the interior is so bland and every feature is overpriced. Sure they are fun to drive, but it doesn't outweigh the undeserved prices they ask for a car that is not much more than a fun engine with sporty handling.

I've been a user on this site for about 5-6 years now & can recall a not so friendly attitude towards BMW on this site after the release of the 745i in 02', & even a couple of negative comments towards the 5-series.
So I'm sorry but I don't see the agents new-found excitement towards BMW as bias, but merely recognition towards a company that really is on top of their game more than ever...Can't argue with that.

Well I guess I'm the fist one to say it.
Lexus.
Why? Because they jumped into the luxury car market without any prestige. They've come to the market and now when people think luxury, for some reason its always Lexus that comes to mind (for them at least). The new "Lexus Lanes" and lately when a car has a quiet cabin the review says "quiet as a Lexus". I'm not saying they don't make good cars (excluding the ES). But the vibe they send just pisses me off, I can't say why or how, it just truely bugs me when I see a Lexus.

Thats funny, I would have placed that blame on BMW fans that enjoy to Hate on Lexus consistently! And its funny that it never gets old. I love this site but the bias towards certain brands (BMW) and the hatred of others (Lexus) for bad reasons considering they have done very well in the states gets to the point where its just rediculous. And that is why I would chose BMW. Although they are one of my personal favorite brands, on this site, the rediculous fanboy agenda causes me to despise them sometimes. Everything that is up must come down. Likewise BMW's time is coming, just remember that! Now I would have likely chose a brand such as Saab, or Acura, or Mercury. Maybe Saab needs better advertisement or something but they just are not popular here. I never hear anything about or from them. I have never driven a Saab and I do not inspire to. They need to come with a product that is appealing to at least one demographic and execute it appropriately. With the new designs and direction coming from GM, I believe Saab also has to ability to jump along that train and tap those resources. They need new direction. As, 001 stated, Acura has way to much potential yet they dont utilize it. They need to fire their team of designers, and seperate the brand from honda. When I test drove the TL, it drove and handled just like my old Honda Accord I owned. Nothing special at all about it. (Lexus does not drive, feel or perform anything like Toyota; Infiniti doesnt like Nissan; So why does Acura feel like Honda. They could really get rid of the nameplate and made Acura models Honda's and I think they would be just as successful (or not). And mercury I feel is absolutely useless. Ford and Lincoln can cover and does cover their entire lineup. This is truly what is called rebadging. You can say Lexus rebadges everything but I feel that is unfair considering when you consider true rebadging comes from mercury. Again, Lexus feel diff than Toyota. Cant say the same about Mercury to Ford or Mercuty to Lincoln. And the cars are exact replicas with maybe a different grill and badge. I dont think Ford will lose market share if they ditch Mercury and cover their products with Lincoln or Ford. It may actually help seeing how they can dump all of their advertising dollars into either Lincoln or Ford only getting rid of the extra baggage.

Honda's new Civic concept looks amazing and the Accord is demolishing everything in sales. I also happen to like how the MDX looks despite it being no more practical than a TSX. But hey...if you really need to loom over traffic at the expense of the environment...

hmmm....just to be evil i think i am going to repost my comment i made earlier(minus spelling errors)...let the hate end and love begin...(*evil laugh*)
Im sick and tired of all the fanboys and the name calling of each other, feel free to cut and paste this post to where all the asian vs european debates go with out end. FIRST everyone has their favorite car brand and type that is their opinion. Even a car with a 0 to 10 in 10 seconds can be a favorite because it saves them gas in times of high gas prices. SECOND the price of a car does not inheritly make it better or worse than others, however, obviously higher price cars usually are with higher quality materials, as the company can afford to do that knowing that people WILL buy that car even at a seemingly outrageous price, however that does not mean seemingly low priced cars are pieces of trash. In fact they maybe highly reliable, good on gas, and fun to drive. Just dont expect gold and ivory interiors and 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. THIRD the "Tuner" mindset versus the "Non-Tuner" mind set. This is general and not always the case but nevertheless: "tuners" like to take their cars upgrade them and beat faster more expensive cars. NOTE: People with european cars can be tuners too. Their ability to beat cars many times their value sometimes overboosts their ego. "Non-tuners" people who own cars that do not need to be upgraded (although its possible and some do) These cars are exotics, luxury and otherwise rare or hard to find cars. They can beat many other cars right out of the "box" without any modification and have high quality materials as well. However they usually also have a high price tag. The people who own these cars have money obviously but that doesnt make them inheritly stuck up, snotty, etc. There is a certain prestige about owning these cars and they could care less if some passed them on the street because usually they can "own" them on the track. There is a price to pay for prestige however, their ability to afford these cars can sometimes overboost their ego.
I am a tuner, and yes i have been guilty of having bias at times, against the multi-million dollars cars, but just because i cant afford them doesnt make them bad. So no more bias and no more bull, deboost me if you will to -100 i dont care and i wont make fun of you for it. Yes i am NismoNate, Nissans are my favorite, but I AM NOT A FANBOY. If this comment doesnt prove it nothing will.
P.S. FOURTH: SKILL of your driving of course, if you dont have the skill or the time to drive your cool car at its intended speed (talking about sports cars here folks) for example at a track, you cars coolness is WASTED but at least it look cool...

I hate Toyota now. Although I have to admit for the first time, that Toyota is very good, it's Lexus that's makes me hate them. Ever since the New LS came out, there have been people that have been so irritating (not mentioning names) that have been causing so many flame wars. If it weren't for hybrids and annoying fanboys, I would like Toyota. Right now, in Puerto Rico, we're unable to rent the Chysler 300 Touring (best luxury) and we are stuck with a Toyota. It's very roomy and such for such little money. It's room you can get for $50,000. It's smooth and comfortable as well. I still can't believe I'm admitting all of this though.

Then proceeded to hand me the keys to a Mercury Grand Marquis!!! I thought they were joking at first, I was thinking, why am I being punished!?!... but they were serious!!!

Agent 001 - Great article and great insight on Acura. I agree with you 100% so I will choose another brand that I hate, but for different reasons. Allow me to explain...
General Motors, specifically Cadillac. I had a bad experience when simply looking at cars. I went to a Cadillac dealer to check out the new CTS. I wasn't even out of the car yet when a pushy salesman was on me like a leach. After the introductions that neither of us remembered, I requested to see the CTS. This guy takes me to a whole row of last generation CTS's and asked me which one I wanted to look at on the interior. To his question I replied none requesting to see the new CTS. Oh, he replied and took me to another place on the lot where they had hidden the new CTS. The one new CTS they had was stripped including being the base engine. I asked if they had any direct injection CTS, he replied no and I tried to leave. He insisted I meet half the dealership staff including the sales manager who again tried to get me to look at the outgoing CTS. They managed to get my business card so for several weeks I was flooded with e-mails promising a great deal on the leftover CTS.
I don't care how good the product is, if General Motors doesn't reign in the sales staff and teach them how to deal with a more discriminate buyer, they will continue to have people leave the lot in search of better customer service. I know Ford is guilty of this as well, and of course several premium brands also (read what I wrote about my experience at Volvo last weekend).
BMW, Lexus and Mercedes buying experiences are for the most part different than Ford or GM experiences. If Cadillac truly wants to be world class, it needs to adopt world class customer service STARTING at the TIME of SALE.
As reader TagMan said, look at the resources wasted by GM, imagine how could they could have been if they had done it right from the beginning.

It's not really fair to blame Cadillac for the dealerships selling style. Thats like blaming Charmin for the way your treated at walmart. Dealerships are given videos and training books to tell how you're supposed to sell, but they don't enforce it. Its up to the dealer how he wants his people to sell. Some places give you the hard sell and some don't. That's just the way it is. And don't tell me I'm wrong because I was a car salesman at a nice, soft sell GM dealership for years.

Besides the obvious (Acura), I dont like Mazdas either, it seems as if they copy all other companies, especially BMW (the mazda 3 looks like a bmw 3 series cheap copy, then they changed their names to just number series)all their cars tend to be over styled to me

I don’t hate any brands, but I would probably never buy an Audi or Nissan/Infiniti. Audis are overpriced and Nissan/Infiniti has low resale and poor build quality.
Acura make great cars. The RL is one of the best cars in its class. However, it has slightly bland styling. Judging by the reviews the new TL is a great car. I like the new design, but looks are subjective. The TSX is making records sells, so the people who actually buy cars, not enthusiasts, have spoken.

Actually the G37 and M series have some of the best resale values in the business.

I have to agree with you 06TLDude, Acura is in a pretty good position by having more fuel efficient cars and the TSX is a great deal. Most people are not rich and fuel economy does factor into a lot of new car purchases now.

06TLDude,
The Acura RL is the best car in its class? LOL!
That statement is 100% pure Fanboy talk.

Lexus - Because everyone who drives a Lexus is thinking that they are so far above everyone else on the road. They're so smart, and so rich. Meanwhile they're getting creeked in a $50,000 Toyota with leather.
If the attitude wasn't there, I'd be okay with Lexus. But they build these monolithic dealerships, and try to purport that they are the second coming. They're kind of like Obama. This just throws fuel on the fire of the ignorant who purchase them.

I hate VOLKSWAGEN because I test drove the GTI and it was incredibly fun and I want one but since VW's reliability is crap and I don't want to spend more time at the dealer than on the road, I won't buy one. Thanks for nothing VW. What a tease.

Get over it, VW reliability is good, in Europe their ratings are high, check out the latest studies here, they are good. What is the difference between an average of 1 problem per 100 cars and 1.2 problems per 100 cars?
I am on my second GTI, 1st was 2006, now a 2008, and have not had ONE issue, both have been perfect, they are amazing cars. My best friend bought one and again, not a single issue.
Get real.

I agree with steve - no issues with my VW. I sold my BMW E46 in for it. The BMW - as much as I liked it had nothing but problems.
Also - the engine in the GTI has won several international awards. The car has also won Car Of the Year as well.

I don't "hate" any specific auto brand, although there are a lot that really disappoint me.
Acura is one, for sure--Honda has great engines and engineering, but no vision for the brand or its styling. HUMMER is an atrocity--it was when gas was $1.50 and it is now at $4.00 . . . they should just shit-can it. And Chrysler LLC is a major disappointment--how could you completely blow it in just a few years? I don't see the purpose of bringing back this moribund company.

Chrysler--their cars are ugly, gimmicky, unreliable gas guzzlers driven by people who are either bewildered that they were dumb enough to buy a Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge or just bewildered at life in general.

The one brand I hate is Toyota. Not because they buld boring cars or sell "luxury" Toyota's (Lexus), it's more that they sell the company as american. I am a big fan of racing and the cars, uniforms and people have the american flag stuck all over them. It's kinda insulting. What I read and I cannot remember where as it was a while ago, was that the american auto industry in Michigan lost over 400,000 jobs in the last few years. So I cringe every time I hear one of the Toyota supporters state how they are employing americans. What about the ones that have lost their jobs? No mention of them. Yes I know how the big three threw away the market with poor cars and terrible service. But that was before not now. What about just supporting america? Maybe there is a price for that. Last but not least, no, I am not a blue collar union guy. I own a 10mm business and believe I have an overview that might be skewed but that is because I am proud to be an american that supports America. Are you and do you?
