Tiguan too expensive and too small? VW to add a mid-sized 7-seater
Volkswagen is planning to extend its SUV lineup with an addition of another mid-sized 7-seater. The SUV will fill the gap between the Tiguan and the Touareg and could go on sale 2011 to take on the Volvo XC60.

It was thought earlier that Volkswagen would stretch the Tiguan the same way Nissan did with the Qashqai. Instead of using existing platforms like the upcoming Q5, Volkswagen will build the model on the platform of the next-generation Passat.

Now the next-generation Touareg will be bigger...

I was not impressed with the Tiguan that I saw at a car show. It was awkward to hold up the heavy steel hood while groping for the el-cheapo metal rod that is supposed to hold up the hood and the door arm rests were ridiculously high and unuseable. The hood needs proper struts to hold it open. The Tiguan is a good size however.

The Tiguan is actually quite small, I was surprised when I saw one on the road.

Unlike Toyota, which only has 6 SUVs. No overlap there at all. Plus the 3 Lexus SUVs.
Having a 7 seat SUV seems like a perfectly reasonable move, it will then have a Highlander-sized competitor. It makes sense.

To add to my point, VAG in the future will have 5 SUVs - Q5, Q7, Tiguan, VW 7 seater SUV, Touareg. Toyota will have 9, plus the Urban Cruiser (if they make it) and a small Lexus SUV.

Toyota actually has 7 SUVs if you count the new Venza. The only one that isn't offered with seven seats is the FJ Cruiser, so yeah, no redundancy there at all.

the difference is, ALL toyota and lexus suvs are SELLING. even the hyperpriced LX570.

vw has one that is NOT selling, so they bring out another overpriced, underreliable heap that likely WILL NOT SELL either? great strategy!

what's vw's sales numbers in NA again? and their CEO maintains the fantasy that one day they will challenge toyota in sales? ROTFLMAO!!!

All VW's are overpriced here in the states. if this were priced to compete with the Rav4 it would be a great alternative. Has pricing been announced yet? why do i have a feeling it will be 35K+ for a nice one? Take the toureg, nice car, way overpriced. For same price why would i take that over a Q7 which has a better name and much better warrenty?

It is slotted to go against the Volvo XC60?? So what is VW, a Honda/Toyota competitor or a Volvo/Saab go getter. They confuse me everytime they come out with a new overpriced underpar vehicle.
