To the naysayers of the IS-F: Look at THESE pictures before you say it's ugly!
I see a lot of people passing negative judgement of the IS-F based on some studio photos or pictures taken with some poor camera works that absolutely don't do the IS-F justice. To see what the IS-F is really about, please make sure to pay a visit to THIS picture gallery of the IS-F before you pass on your judgement.

I think this vehicle doesn't work nearly as well as the stock IS250 or IS350. Here's why:
(a.) the large bump in the hood is ungainly
(b.) the front end uses a lot of curves while the rest of the car uses edges and flatter surfaces
(c.) the double decker exhausts are rather ridiculous
(d.) the stock design is so good

Even with these high quality photos taken with a Hasselblad the car still looks hokey.
The IS350 is as far with this design I approve of.

First of all, thank you for the high quality photos. I think they did a good job on the bulged hood line and rear exhaust pipes. But I am just not feeling the front bumper. Some of the concept photos of the ISF I saw in Japanese magazines look way better than the real car itself. I also agree with some of the posters that the front end of the regular IS looks better than ISF.

I also agree. This car is hot! There are only two things that I can't seem to get myself to like. First, the side scoop somehow looks out of place. I understand lexus was trying to make the car look more exciting, but it just looks weird and cheap actually. Second, not really feeling the "F" emblem. It doesn't look that great, especially on the steering wheel. I think the design is off. It looks not cheap but off somehow.

That’s the new IS-F?? This is my first time seeing it and I'm admittedly relieved to see it's design doesn't even touch the RS4!
It's too cheap & afterthought looking. It looks as if they got the Fast & Furious tuner crowd to design the IS-F…With that cheap looking side skirt that flows into the side vent, which is also poorly executed.

Here we come again. RS4? Go out to buy two letters "R" and "S" and slap them on the back of a A4. You will get a "RS4" plus saving your 30K. Don't forget to erase the "A", or you will get a RS-A4.

"first off lexus350- whats with the RS-4, its RS4, no dash..."
What's with the lexus350? It's lexusis350.
"...the RS4 is better then any car lexus has ever produced and or will ever produce. Lexus should stick with there boring granpa cars and let the germans do what they do best Luxury SPORT cars. Remember Lexus is more toyota then audi is Volkwagon."
Okay, that's a crap statement. This article is about the IS-F. I showed my dad this car (he's a grandpa) and he said it is nothing he would buy because it has too much power. Just because Lexus has moved from threatening the premium luxury cars to the luxury sport sedans, doesn't mean they don't know what they're doing and won't do it right. Lexus will take make a downfall on the A4, M3, and C AMG sales. You can count on it. And the Phaeton and the A8 are pretty much EXACTLY the same. Lexus doesn't look like Toyota's anymore. They used to, but look at the new L-Finesse Lexus' and the new Toyotas. Not a single similarity.
"Volkswagon didnt create AUDI, But toyota CREATED Lexus."
And thank goodness Toyota did create Lexus. There is finally a good quality, reliable, luxurious, and powerful luxury automaker. You Lexus-Haters are glad too. Afterall, who would you belittle if Lexus wasn't around?

I am a BMW man through and through, I would always take an M3 over this, BUT..
Okay it ain't pretty, but no everyone wants their super fast super saloon understated, some people want their car to scream FAST at everyone! It is a worthy addidtion to the Lexus brand, and the market place.
I'd still take an M3 or an RS4 before this... but lets just accept that styling tastes are personal and subjective... it is a brave entry to the uber-saloon market. No history, no pedigree, but these things take time.... I'm sure inthe fesh his thing has a commanding presence...
but i'dstill take an M3 (hell i'd still take a 320si instead of this!!)

Of course these pictures look fantastic - any car under those conditions (ie. extreme lighting, cleaned and glossed every 5 minutes, straight from the factory, paint still wet) would look good.
I wouldn't doubt that these pictures might have even gone a step further - and brought into Photoshop with the hue/saturation bumped up, added a few filters, sharpened the image, maybe even adjusted the contrast, played around with the colour balance amongst other things one can do with software...
Put this car on the street 6 months from now and lets see the pics with normal sunlight.

I agree with many of the above comments...usually we all desire to see an automaker, BMW included, be a little more agressive in the styling department as relating to wheels, flares, scoops etc. Unfortunately and shockingly Lexus actually overshot in this department. A good practice is Porsche/BMW and the large variance between the base models and the higher end models in terms of style. To the ignorant eye, nothing is different on each model but they can at least agree that a Boxster S or X5 4.8 look drastically better than their base counterparts.

sorry but i think the RS4 looks quite different from the a4. the front vents/grills really change the whole stance of the car for me.
and the m5 is easy to spot from the rear by the exhaust, but from the front it is impossible, bar those little side vents.

I think this is a nice looking car, I liek the lookds of the IS350 as well.. I think if Infiniti and lexus merged lt lexus do the exterior and interior and Infiniti do the engine, suspension and trans the car would be a force. I for one was disapointed to hear that the IS350 was lack luster in performance handling and I hope this makes up for it.
I do prefer the BMW anything over all other cars, I iek the subtle differences between the M and the Standard coupe

This is pretty nice! Love the rims. Lexus seems to know what rims to put on its IS and GS450h models- too bad they couldn't do the same with the new LS460.
Otherwise, I like the rear valance and the side skirts, but the front end looks bloated, with the bodykit wildly out-of-proportion. They were kind of going for the RS4's unique dual-vent look, but the bumpers are too big and don't match the rest of the car.

And here lies the meat of this while topic...a breakdown of each of the individual pieces that offends some and excites others. Unfortunately this 'F' model for Lexus is more a compilation of parts that are too easy for Joe Smith to point at and say "oh that is different than my neighbors Lexus" instead of "oh that car looks stunning and aggressive but yet I can't place my finger on why."
You wouldn't buy a designer suit in hopes of people noticing what a nice lapel, pleats and cuffs you have.
And to join in the silly mudslinging...those exhaust pipes look horrendous.

Come on! There are no MBZ or BMW's that have gone this drastic. By no means is this car ugly but it is definitely a little over the top. Looks like it could be in the Fast and the Furious 6 or whatever number sequel they're on now. Its gone too racer and will surely lose many of the highline clientele it seeks as a result.

Alright so you mentioned a bunch of crap though different, doesnt make a whole lot of difference to the car, sure different rims, sure different grill, and mirrors. But wait I saw them, and took them as minor upgrades, all visual. The side vents on the IS-F for one are a big difference. I'll give you that the front and rear valence is difference, but what model of car doesn't change their front side and rear skirts for upper models. The crap you named, shouldnt even be named as a true difference, when they are merely a small upgrade. The Body style of the IS-F can be easily distinguished from the IS base. I am a fan for the RS4, but the stuff u mention as a change shouldnt even be mentioned because they are a given. And don't go telling me that I have no right posting on this site, when your little RS4 fanboy status is all your touting on these boards

Ha! I just came up with a great reason why Lexus sucks at engineering!
When Audi designed the B6 S4 (my car) with the 4.2L V8, they realized how the engine was too large to fit in the B6's compact engine compartment. In response, they redesigned various parts of the engine, custom-tailoring it to the A4 body.
Lexus, on the other hand, was faced with the same problem in their V8, but instead of fitting it to the IS, they put in a hideous, disgusting, bulbous hood for the engine to fit.
The new M3 does not have this hood, the S4/RS4 certainly doesn't, and, by all accounts, the C63 won't; the C55 doesn't and it has a large V8. Lexus doesn't take engineering seriously- they don't give a damn. They just want to follow the others and find the hottest trend right now.

I think Lexus has had a reputation for ultra conservative styling. Maybe that is why they went with such an aggresive stance with this design. I'm not so sure it worked. It looks imbalanced. Possibly if the rear of the front wheel well weren't so large and the rear wheel arches were more emphasized it may help carry out a more even-looking package.

Yep, absolutely no reason to defend a particular brand across the board. EVERY car manufacturer puts out some real crap from time to time...even the most sacred of brands. IN FACT, the point many are trying to make about this IS-F, myself included, is that they prefer the looks of the IS350 instead which is an attractively styled car no matter your brand loyalty.

I am a huge fan of Lexus, but I was hoping the ISF would be a little bit "cooler" for lack of a better word.
I still may get one, and I think an example in black would look a hell of a lot better than this blue color.
I do wish people would stop refering to it as a "ricer". The term ricer should only refer to a car with non-functional tacked on crap. If the stuff on this Lexus functions, then it's fine. You may not like it, but you can't compare it with a '91 Civic with a giant rear wing and exhaust from Pep Boys.

Lexus is advertising 0-60 in 4.9 sec for the IS-F. At a cost of the 2007 BMW M3. Could this be true?? BMW 335i does 0-60 in 4.8. At cost of $42K. I'm certain the 2008 M3 will do 0-60 in 4.3 sec. Also, the 2008 M3 will cost approximately $4K more than the 2007 M3. Lexus will have a hard time gaining market share from BMW with those numbers.

then with some tunning 425hp/380+lb.ft?
with more tunning 450hp/365+lb.ft?
plus 8 sp transmission (good fuel economy too, that is another reason why Lexus put such "narrow" tires on IS-F. Just to avoid gas guzzler tax because IS-F will be tested following new EPA rules in 2008)
You still think IS-F will be slower than IS350 with only 306hp/277lb.ft?
My guess there are two reasons why Lexus stated such low torque number for the 5.0L v8: a). they didn't want to give out information. b). they are prepairing a hp war from BMW because nobody knows what BMW will have for their coming M3.

Please, "less than 4.9s" not equal to 4.9s.
In the past Lexus has overstated their performance numbers. So the 4.9 sec is most likely very close to what their advertising for the IS-F.

btw, the stacked chrome tailpipes are fake. They're stuck in the bumper skin with a metal mesh but do not connect to the exhaust pipes...
