Top 10 Least Expensive Cars to Own in 2008
The cost of owning a vehicle goes beyond the purchase price. Expenses like insurance and maintenance can add up.

But most of all, it must start life with a sticker price well below even the most affordable luxury cars. A low purchase price holds down insurance premiums, taxes and fees, financing costs, and, especially, depreciation.

That’s why the priciest car on our list of the Top 10 Least Expensive Cars to Own is the tenth ranked Honda Civic DX, which starts at just $15,010.

What is interesting to me, if you subtract the purchase price vs. the total cost to own, the top three:
1. Fit -$17,871
2. Caliber -$18,736
3. Civic -$18,749

What surprises me, the Yaris costs $734 more to operate, minus purchase price over 5 years than the Caliber does.

I'm sure the Caliber wouldn't do as well when it comes time to sell. But I still find this info interesting.

That doesn't surprise me. Mostly Japanese and a couple of American and Korean cars. No German.

Never saw a guy driving a Fit yet , thank god. Have seen one driving a Yaris , what a loser.
