Top 10 Luxury Vehicles with the Lowest Resale Value
The 10 luxury vehicles likely to shed the most value over time each have at least one of those qualities.

Forbes magazine has compiled a list of those ten, along with pictures and explanations of their value-losing potential.

The top two value losers on the list are the Lincoln Town Car and Mercury Grand Marquis. Both cars are sold in large numbers to various vehicle fleets, such as limo, taxi and rental agencies, and they use decades-old technology.

Larry Batton, president and founder of Auto Appraisal Group Inc., says that these two cars "are archaic and don't fulfill the requirements of modern buyers." Other cars on this list have a similar issue: Their price is too high for the value they offer.

It's important to note that this list isn't comprised of a bunch of bad cars. Usually they perform well. The question is, how much are you willing to pay for perceived prestige?

No surprises there. Notice how BMW or Lexus is NOT on there. Surprised Range Rover isn't on the list, or the LR3, people tend to take a bath with those cars.

BMW might not be on this list, but despite the fact that these cars aren't worth much after 5 years, atleast they can be sold in a matter of weeks unlike used BMWs. Nobody is going to pay top dollar for a weak BMW 325i or 525i, when there are so many cost effective options that have far more power and amenities, and in some cases, better warranties.

Caddy's, Lincoln's and Jag's I expected, but the Mercedes E550? I didn't expect that.

j/w, why does Europe still get the 500 badging on the v8 models and here in the US, we get 550?

This is BS on the Mercedes-Benz. Take a look at 2001-2002 MB 430's. They retailed for 50-55k, and they are going now for 20-22k. That's HARDLY 26%.

In fact, I'll go ahead and contract to buy every 2007 E550 I can get for $15k in 5 years. Sign me up.

I would too. For what it's worth I'm pretty sure those are wholesale residuals, not retail. But still I'm surprised to see the E550 so low.

Why is the Lincoln Town Car there? This was supposed to be a list of luxury cars.

There is no way E550 residual is 26%. I'm not a MBZ fan but E-series have one of the highest residual values for any car. I leased an E350 for my mom with 71% residual value over 3 years.

Lexus is not on the list because they're the best followed by Toyota and other Japanese cars.

With Range Rovers, even though they are extremely expensive to keep on the road only after a few years, they drink gas, etc., they hold their value well. A 2003 Range Rover (1st year of this Gen, had several issues) will still private sell for $40k with around 60k miles. That's close to 50% residual.

The Disco depreciated much quicker.

And I've seen X-types, only 2 years old, sell for half their MSRP.

Even the XJ, if you wait a couple years and try to get a used model with the new all-aluminum body, you'd probably save a ton for an old, but a still cool car....makes you feel like royalty.

BMW's are impossible to by in the used car market. You cant get a good deal on one. I recently saw a 2003 325 convertible with 105k miles go for $18,000. Too many miles for that price.
