Toyota Adding 850 Workers To Texas Tundra Plant

Toyota Motor Corp.

said Friday its San Antonio truck plant is set to hire 850 workers by the end of the year and will resume a second production shift in February as it revs up to add the Tacoma pickup.

For the first time since the automaker announced it would build the midsize pickup in the Alamo City, local plant officials released details on new employment figures, production schedules and the anticipated date Tacomas will start rolling off a revamped line at the factory.

Toyota’s plans include increasing the number of production team members at the facility by about 46 percent — from 1,850 to about 2,700 — with a mix of permanent and temporary workers.

I wonder if they're former Dodge and Chevy workers. : ) Smart. Steal whatever is good about the domestic and refine it for the Toyota trucks. Typical Toyota fashion but it works.

Nope, they are just the same Temps that lost thier job about this time last year when the economy took a dive. Toyota uses "Temp" workers to save money during the ups and downs of auto sales.

Well, the 25% import tariff imposed on trucks not built in the USA would make it hard. Plus, why do you want to see all those people in Texan lose their jobs to Mexico, Canada, and Japan?

Dam right full time jobs for Canadians and Americans/Mexicans working in Mexico and Americans working in the US full time adding to our economey buying houses and cars not just employed and used by Toyota one day and let go the next when things go bad for the company.

Toyota has a lot of faith that there Tacoma will sell, Out of the small trucks sadly this is the best out of the bunch for safety, The rest rate poor in side impact, In a way I like the H-3 T alpha the best,a V-8, two selectable lockers, this Toy has one still? In some ways the Toy is better engineered, it has a better rear suspension set up, and the front suspension on both of them suck. On the other hand it sounds like the economy is improving.

Sorry, but the Ridgeline is by far the safest truck on the market. Best in Roll over, side impact, they even designed the rear cab to prevent objects in the bed from coming into the cab.

What class is the Ridgeline? you are right about Honda being the safest (and most reliable), but I don't consider the Ridgeline a truck, I don't consider anything a truck that doesn't have a low range or a locking transfer case, If I had to buy a small truck it would be the Toyota because it is the safest out of the bunch and if I wanted something with off road ability I would buy the H-3 T alpha.

Invisible, the Ridgelines "locking diff" only works up to 18mph, that is pathetic,

something like chevs apparent locking diff, although it is better than traction control at low speeds. The number one reason the Ridgeline isn't a truck is because it lacks the most essential component, a transfer case that locks with a low range. Although for people that don't go off road and do not intend on towing more than 5000.lbs I would highly recommend it, I am a big Honda fan because of there attention to safety and reliability.
