Mazda nor Nissan can dare challenge Honda sales. The cusumers over the years have made up their minds. This race will forever be between Toyota and Honda and I think 08 sales will be closer once Honda has a full year of the new design under their belt. Meanwhile Mazda and Nissan need to work on reliability issues before they want to walk in the big duece shoes.

I agree with mikey- Toyota and Honda are the big players in this segment, and will remain. Nobody cares what the Accord or Camry looks like, but the fact that this Accord looks so good (inside and out) will give it MORE sales rather than less. It's also the most powerful car in this class, and will retain Honda's stellar handling attributes.

The Altima cannot challenge the Accord. There have been months over the past 5 years, including this year where the Altima sold 26k cars in a month and the Accord sold 28k in the same months. Each month it has been getting closer and closer. I would not say the Altima cannot challenge these two cars. It takes time, but Americans eventually get sick of seeing the same thing over and over again. The Altima will be the next best selling sedan in america in the next 10 years.

monty, the thing is, they don't care about seeing these Accords and Camrys "again and again." The Altima is still in 3rd place, and that means it's also very popular. And if it got to #1, we'd all be seeing the Altima all over. It's not a win-win situation. Honda and Toyota do not remain stagnant. The new Camcord models (after these) will still get much better.

My arguments have been pretty biased and nonfactual as of late. I concede this one. I am more hopping that the Altima begins to sell more then Toy and Hon. I just think that Nissan was pretty much reborn as a new company in 2000. With that will be lessons learned and struggles along with successes. Much of the same thing that any company faces and experiences on their rise to the top. I feel that the two companies to keep an eye on by most competitors over the next 2 decades will be Hyundai and Nissan. They both seem to have very aggressive growth plans. Again this is more my opinion rather then fact based.

Of course Camry sales will increase. The more rental fleets buy them, the more Toyota can put in their sales numbers.

I agree 100% atleast their are some rational people on this site. Toyota has everthing from Taxi cars to rentals. Honda is private owned you will never see one in a Avis rental.

And LA, stop cherry-picking stats that are mid-year. Traditionally, Accord fleet sales are about 2% while the Camry averages over 10%...no wonder than can remain the top seller with that. Oh, and their production capacity is higher. If it weren't for fleet sales (not every year, but most), you'd see a lot different picture the last 10 years on that coveted sales number.

Yeah, and you're comparing a 5 year old design with a brand new one, so I would hope the new Camry is beating the Accord. But go back to a full year (06)and see what's going on. Traditionally, the Camry has topped the Accord because of those fleet sales, which is fine with me because I'd rather have higher resale values.

Camry has beter acceleration, better shifting, sportier ride. But the Accord must be better because it has a softer ride, larger interior and better style??? If the Camry had a softer ride, people would criticize it for being like Buick. If the Camry had grown so big as to be EPA classified large, people would have griped that it has become bloated. If the Camry had copied BMW style so blatantly, well there would be about 100 more posts here I believe. So good job Accord, if nothing else you proved how two-faced people are.

The Camry is much better in terms of styling. It looks classier, both inside and out. The Accord will have the edge in terms of performance, but how many people shopping in this segment care about handling? The Camry wins hands down.

..But I love the new Altima..

The Camry looks cleaner and sleeker inside and out than the Accord. The Accord looks sportier than the Camry. I personally prefer the Camry. Honda should seriously stop copying BMW and forge their own path interior-wise and exterior-wise.

im liking the acord overall more than the camry at this point in terms of styling on the exterior and interior. However, i dont like how they took off the hybrid option, something that i would really consider purchasing.

until then, the camry hybrid FTW

The Saturn aura is better then the both of these cars why not add it to this comparo. After all it was 2007 north american car of the year.

Here is the deal: The Accord is slightly better than the Camry, yet the Camry will easily outsell the Accord. In my opinion Honda's feel a little more premium than their comparable Toyota counterparts, for some reason Honda's just feel more solid. However the bad side to this is that there is a difference between Toyota's and Lexus ride qualities, while I feel that their not that much of a gap between Honda's and Acura's at least not something that is significant.

In the end the Accord has always been and always will be a few points, percentages, and ratings better than the Camry (just very slightly though, even if it feels significant or nonsignificant to some).

Pictures do not do the new Accord justice. I saw the EX-V6 getting loaded off the truck yesterday at a nearby Honda dealership. Just so happens, a Camry SE-V6 was parked nearby. The Accord looked much more premium and sporty. No question about it, the Accord looked like Mercedes in comparison to the pug faced Camry. The salesman let me sit inside the cabin too, I must say its top of its class, no question about it. You really have to see the Accord in person before you say anything, it comes together much better.

As for the Aura, it is a great car, i respect it, but i don't think Saturn would dare put an Accord in their showrooms to compare, at lest not this 08 one.

aerith,

Don't even compare an Accord to a Mercedes. There is NO comparison. But of course to Honda there is, because Honda has to copy other car manufacturer's like BMW and Mercedes ..... the Accord doesn't have it's own look.

The camry might look like it has a pug face, but I guarantee you that that pug will outlive that lady on high heels accord anyday.
