A top Toyota executive said the auto company might eventually make all of its U.
S.-bound vehicles in North America, with no imports from Japan.
"Somewhere down the road" it's possible, said Bill Fay, vice president and general manager of Toyota's U.S. division.
He said there are no immediate plans to stop making certain models of North American-bound Lexus vehicles in Japan.
Toyota and other Japanese automakers have been shifting production from Japan to other markets in reaction to the strength of the yen in recent years. A shortage of younger workers is another factor.
