The figure of the table is too small.

24k Priuses sold in May?!

Too many stars this month beside the Prius, LS460 3,196, Camry, Tundra, ES350, RX, Highlander... even IS250/350 sold 57,22 units.

ES Sucks! Worst looking lexus by far. The thing is awful!

The new one I appreciate just not the ugly previous generation. Now it has great power! I test drove one the other day. It is surprisingly quiet but I just hope it does not wear down like the previous generation when after 2-3 years the road noise was very apparent.

You calling Lexus up 2.1% strong?

Toyota did well, but Scion is starting to look pretty dismal.

xA -68%
xB -48%
tC -14%

These new model better help.

Good point about volume, but Scion better pray that the new models will help. According to the inventory report they are not low in supply.

They are simply moving slow.

I hate to be the one to bring up DSR, but in this month it favors BMW, who does not use it. Using the non DSR numbers, as BMW does, Lexus actually posted a 6.2% gain. They sold 1848 more vehicles in May 07, BMW sold 2001 more. And you know fully well how this works 009, so dont start talking about how the 2.1% is such a poor month for Lexus.

hey xero:

if any increase on volume of 30,000 is great for a premium maker, what do you think of bmw's 8.1% increase vs. lexus 2.1%?

Nah wouldn't want to cause any personal strife about a sales figure.

I have better things to do than worry about that.

But Toyota certainly is on a roll no doubt. Pulling out double digit increases at that volume level is impressive.

you're right xero....

an uptick of 2.1% on 31,000 units is AMAZING!
while an increase of 8% on 26,000 is horrible.

xero ... of that 26k ... 22k were just for the cars. that is the most impressive part about BMW's sales figures. What is most impressive about Lexus sales is that they continue to sell about 9 to 10k Rx models. That is amazing ...

I can play this game too. More than one half (14000 out of 26000) of BMW's sales are the 3 series. Lexus is not so reliant on any one model. RX makes up less than a third of Lexus's totals.

xero & toyo ... pay close attention before you ridicule me. I said that I thought it was impressive that Lexus is still selling the RX at the numbers that they do. Also, I stated that BMW selling that many 3-series and sedans at the pace they are is equally impressive.

For the month? I guess Toyota is on mark to sell the 200K units they expected.

I must say, I was wrong about the Tundra's looks. The extended cabs have grown on me. The regular cab is still odd looking though.

BMW car sales only beat Lexus by 3000K units. Lexus RX sales obliterated BMW SAV sales (new X5 and all).

It kind of makes one wonder where all these new customers are coming from? I think they should start separating finances and leases to give a clearer picture of who actually sells vs who leases.

3,000K units is 3,000,000 cars. It's either 3,000 or 3K- not both.

As for "SAVs..." only the RX drove Lexus in the SUV market. I'm surprised it's still doing so well- I'm getting very bored with ours.

I prefer Honda myself - but we had a Toyota and it did a great job. Still - it's still hard to believe that Toyota is on this good of a role. I agree - where are all of these people coming from? That is a whole lot of new customers. What's more suprising is that Lexus continues to increase. The Camry we had was great but nothing in me desires to buy a Lexus.

Amazing performance from Toyota. I guess when its time to put up sales and profit, Toyota delivers in spades... No wonder the BVMW US chief had his knickers all twisted up ..

Cant believe that the Corolla at the end of its cycle is selling so well..( i think it beat out the new Civic this month) . They must be offering fantastic deals on them ... Suddenly the decision to delay the launch of the new Corolla makes a lot of sense ...

As for the Camry .. every so called performance magazine has praised the Sonata or Saturn/Chevy / Ford/ Honda ...over the Camry . But Toyota just ploughs through them ....

And to think that Toyota is gearing up for a huge mew product Blitz starting with SEMA 2007 ...
My best wishes to all theur competitors... Toytoa has truly removed its gloves

If I am not mistaken, based on what I have read, Toyota was the number 1 brand in the US this month, beating Chevrolet and Ford. Could it be???? I assume this has never happened before.

But I'm pretty sure GM is still taken as a bundle, which means they would be very hard to beat in our market. I'm estimating that GM sells about 400,000 cars a month here.

Maybe I wasnt clear. The Toyota brand is number 1, the whole corporation still clearly trails GM. I dont presume that will end any time soon, if ever.

Nice increase for Toyota.

But I didn't know the GX/LX had so little sales compared to the RX. Seriously- 10,000 of their 12,000 SUV sales were RXs!

That's because the GX/LX are just fill in the gap type of cars for the Lexus brand. The RX is obviously the most attractive one. But the LX is the most luxurious one but I don't think by much. the RX is very comfortable. Only different is in size compared to the LX. I think the GX should be scratched. Never driven one nor have I even rode in one. I'm sure it's nice but I wouldn't buy one. It's rare to find GX's on the road.

"fill in the gap?"

This may be a more adequate statement for just the GX, but every luxury brand needs a full-size SUV to remain viable nowadays.

Despite all the crap that S4cab gives the RX, it has always been a great vehicle for its segment. Comfort, just the right amount of luxe, some versatility, and all the normal Lexus attributes that their customers demand. Hell, S4cab DID buy one himself!!! (Or for his wife when he wants to be an orthodox German fan.)

No, I've never said it's my car. It's been perfectly fine, nothing exciting. Good car for road trips. But sometimes it's not all that luxurious, as the interior hasn't worn well, and the wind noise is pretty bad at high speeds. You could say it wasn't "designed" for high speeds, but it still goes over 100mph, so why not?

BTW, latest on our list to replace the RX is the Jaguar XF. If I can trust her with a RWD car (snow tires) in the winter, I don't see why we wouldn't be able to get one- it's beautiful.

S4,

They took care of that problem with the RX350. They had more insulation to block out the road noise.

Do you have a 330?

Yes, we got it in April of 2003. We were going to replace it with an A8 a few months ago, but got a new house instead. The new car is delayed until next year, and right now, I have no idea what we'll end up with.

Lexus didn't forcast a big increase this year. Next year as well, will be flat. Look out after that. Lexus is waiting for all dealers to finish building their new dealerships to handle the extra volume of service. They don't want service to suffer because of too much volume.
