Toyota Recalls 54,000 Japanese Vehicles For Spontaneous Combustion

I heard about this.
They are recalling the Toyota RX and the Toyota ES.
But every car manufacturer has recalls.

Well, this is better than doing a cost analysis on how much they would save if they did nothing and settled with victims. I have never heard of the 'Windom' or 'Harrier'

And we have a picture of a 20+ year old corolla burning for what reason?

Atleast Toyota is doing a recall.. I remember reading a story about a family that had finally bought their first new car (Ford Excursion I think), it was in the garage and the thin peice of plastic that seperates the brake fluid from the 12v live connection was worn out or broke and it caused a fire, burned their house down and killed their dog, Ford didn't do anything about it. Also other Ford things -- like some issues w/ the Crown Victoria, Ford offers a reinforced fuel tank for police interceptor versions, a ladys husband got rear ended, one of the bolts hit the tank and it exploded - killed her husband - Ford didn't do anything about it because the stronger tank is optional equipment..

And to aggrivate the BMW owners, let us not forget the X5s that enjoyed catching on fire! :)

In the end.. stuff happens.. that's why we have insurance -- unless it's the manuf. making cheap components or cutting costs that in the end kills people.

It may not be all Sonys fault.. a lot of people do stupid stuff.. A laptop is a portable computer, computers get hot, I don't understand why people think laptops don't need venitlation as they put them on their fluffy comforter that kills any chance of airflow the thing might have.. Those people need to be hit with the stupid stick.

What's an engine fire, a burning smell?

They talk about the RX and ES, then list models that are 7-10years old, and show a picture of one from the 80s.

I guess the picture is just for effect eh? Nothing to do with exaggeration.

That's hot. But it is perfectly normal for cars to catch fire by themselves. ALL cars do it. But Toyotas are extra special,when they do it their resale value goes up by 27.5% on average.

TOYLEX and RECALLS LIKE TWO PEAS IN A POD.

I keep thinking of a teenage buddy and his girlfriends that would spend the whole night in his car with the engine running (A/C).

I hope for his sake that he doesn't own a Toyota or Lexus product these days.

On the other side is a Lexus GS. So of 3 cars, 2 are Toyota's but neither is on fire.

Times must be tough if the Germans are clinging to a recall of cars that are 10 years old.

Shall I dust off a list of recalls for the prides of Germany and all their fire/break and engine problems. And these were built in the 21st century to boot? Not to mention the owners probably paid atleast 2x as much for something that's worse than "mere" Toyotas.

Just let me know.

For Pete's sake Ben, we've already been down this road. Most of MB's inventions were originally designed for something else, they were just the first ones to claim it as their own.

Guess what, all companies have some sort of recall. It's called reality of production. Nothing that is made is 100% perfect.

Apparently the SLR catching on fire is OK too. As well as the S-class having bad brakes, most Audi's leaking oil and catching fire, and BMW. etc etc.

As I said before, must be slow year if the Germans have to reach back 10 yrs to find something to smile about.
