Gentlemen, start your accusations! Not half a day after it was widely reported that GM outsold Toyota globally, with 9.366 million cars to GM's 9.369 million, Automotive News is reporting that the actual figures are 9.37 to 8.89 million, respectively.

The discrepancy comes courtesy of 516.435 Wuling-brand trucks that were sold in China. Since GM owns only a 34-percent share of the Chinese company, which is 50.1-percent owned by Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp., those sales don't count towards the official tally—much the same way the Mazda sales aren't included in Ford's total and Mitsubishi sales weren't included in Chrysler's during the tenure of their equity stake.
