To make it even better, the actual % increases were 11% Toy, 4.3% Lex (total mfr up 10.2%). Remember Toyota uses daily averages, and since there were more days last month, it makes the % per day lower, while the actual monthly gain is higher. (some months it works the exact opposite, making the Toy/Lex figures seem inflated. Those months Euro fans love to point out the distinction. On months like this one, they will be silent.)

I wish they would just stop using the daily rates. How many dealers are really still closed on Sundays?

Lexus IS sales not so hot when compared to 3 series...?

And it seems like the IS is beating everything else in its class (C, A4, G) except the 3. Only 2nd to the 3 series, I'm sure Lexus will take it. Esp since they also sell another entry level model, as XeroKOOL pointed out.

"...it seems like the IS is beating everything else in its class..."

Think for a moment.

Every other car in this class is "old" by now. The IS and 3er are the most "recently updated" cars in this class. The new Infiniti G37 and Mercedes C class should sell well. Once the Audi, Saab etc. are redesigned and updated, sales should improve.

that sounds like an excuse, but okay.

I will also point out that I was incorrect by not including the G couple sales, so the IS is third. Such is life.

How does this sound like an excuse? I am pointing out an "observed trend".

so what you are saying is that toyota can't build a car that is luxurious and sporty at the same time. They have to build two cars the ES ans the IS.

xero:
you can't combine ES and IS sales to compare to 3-series. they're in different categories: large luxo sedan, small sporty sedan. bmw doesn't play in luxo barges. and who in their right mind cross shops the two? average ES buyer is woman in her 60s.

Looks like Toyota beat Ford again to be the number 2 brand. For mfr, I think they are still number 3 Behind GM and FoMoCo due to Ford's Euro brands putting them over the top. Maybe Ford should keep selling off those brands so they can firmly entrench themselves as the number 3 auto company in the US.

Absolute sale increases should be: Lexus 4.2%, Toyota 11%, which are Agent009 like.

Wow, Camry 46K, Tundra ~22K, Prius 17k, LS460/L 2.6k... ES 7.2K IS 5.1k

"Absolute sale increases should be: Lexus 4.2%, Toyota 11%"

You beat me to it. Since inevitably the increases will be compared to Euro mfrs, who dont use the daily sales averages, the percentages do need to be converted to these higher numbers.

Nice job. Glad someone else pays attention to the details.

Toyota sells because of the incenatives. For example I was car shopping with my girl on the weekend, Honda did not want to budge on anything, meanwhile Toyota gives away their cars 2.9% and other goodies, I wonder what they have for markup.
Also is Scion figures factored into these number because I find it puzzling that Toyota could sell about 400,000 more cars than Honda if my math is right. Those two companies are like Chocolate or Vanilla take your pick.

Goodness those numbers are staggering. How can anyone argue against them? I don't like all their products but they surely know what people want.

They are in business to make money and sell cars and they do that better than anyone.

surely not as high as the G6 or impala (based on % sold). this is crazy, how many "record setting" months in row will toyota and lexus have? and with all the money they are making you would think they could make something the enthusiast would appreciate.

Lexus ALWAYS understates their 0 - 60 times by at least .5 seconds. Here are the results of the 5 Top Luxury Cars in this test which was reported in the January Issue of Car and Driver. Please note these tests were all done on the same day at about the same time and at the same altitude. The results reflect the average of 3 runs and all cars are the 2007 vintage.

Mercedes S550 5.6, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.1 (Benz show 5.4 in their specs)
BMW 750iL 5.7, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.2
Jag XJ Super 6.0 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.5
Lexus LS460L 6.2 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.6
Audi A8 6.8 0 - 60 quarter mile 15.2

Note that Lexus, as usual, is more than the 5.4 the manufacturer CLAIMS to get by .8 seconds.

Also note the LS430 (prior model the LS460 replaced) was rated at 295 HP and was actually 278 when Lexus corrected their rating. And there were no refunds or apologies from the so-called "quality" car company. ABC - Always Be Careful what you buy from the (REPREHENSIBLE) Toyota/Lexus people.....

Lexus didn't "correct" their ratings. The SAE changed the testing methods and many companies (not just Lexus) had to retest their engines and restate their horsepower numbers. It's similar to the new mileage numbers you'll start seeing for 2008 models.

You can read the article here: http://www.forbes.com/2005/09/28/acura-SAE-horsepower-cz_sk_0929vehicles_ls.html
