Toyota Says No US Recovery For Them Until Next Decade

Toyota Motor Corps top US sales executive is confident about growth prospects in the years ahead for the American economy and auto sales, once the industry gets past its current rocky stretch.

"If you look at the fundamentals of the economy, the U.S. population is going to increase by 32 million between now and 2020. That's equivalent to the populations of New Jersey, Maryland and Florida combined," Jim Lentz, president of Toyota Motor Sales USA, said on Tuesday. The ranks of affluent consumers are expected to increase faster than the population as a whole, he said in an interview.

"In the next decade, we'll see markets of 17 million-plus again."

Toyota'a zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz cars are the volume sellers. Exciting cars don't get volume sales hence equals low profits.

Wood,
BMW volume is 1.5 million, Lexus volume is about .5 million. Yeah, BMW's are pretty boring now since any loser can lease one.

BMW might get some profit if they charged more than 0.9% and if they didn't dilute the brand so much that they can't command any sort of premium.

MB is slowly falling into the same trap.

You can't sell luxury cars in a market where everyone is broke. Lexus, Benz, and BMW sales are predicated on Americans continuing to buy cars that they can't afford. Since Bush has demolished the nation's balance sheet and banking industry, it is unlikely that high end vehicle sales will ever be the same.

Things are looking good for Buick and Acura, though, as Americans finally face reason, and understand that they are broke.

Georgemia, what the hell are talking about, just cause your broke don't mean everybody else is. The facts are the U.S. has in the last 10 years created more billionaires and millionaires then in the last 20 years and we have more then all top 11 contries combined!!The market for luxury will never go out of style in the U.S. Bush didn't demolish the banking industry either, that started 15 years ago, it has just finally come to a head here. Do the research, man!
