You can only cover so much territory when your company expands the way Toyota has. I'm not surprised that their QC has been in jeopardy.

Their nothing like GM though but a few of the GM products aren't half bad it's just how people in today's society perceive it.

Toyota needs a new Supra sports car to revitalize their desirability because they've been making boring cars over the years. Who the heck would want an overweight sluggish Celica? I want the SUPRA back now!

My favorite saying, "Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it." Being no. 1 or being at the top can be a bitch. I hate to say it but Honda looks the best positioned of all the auto manufacturers currently selling in the US.

Demand for trucks is near 50% of what it was last year, so moving workers to the plants that build the hot selling fuel efficient vehicles makes more sense.

Honda never intended to compete significantly with other truck makers when it released the ridgeline - its more of a niche vehicle. Therefore, its decrease in sales has less of an impact vs. a company that relies heavily on truck sales (GM/Ford hurting big time along with Toyota).

Those of you surprised that this is happening, "I guess" you havent been paying attention to the auto industry lately?

accuttly all auto sales are down.

And Toyota sales where down almost 25% and GM sales where only down like 17% and just think GM is just coming out with hybrids where Toyota has had them for awhile and toyota sales are much worse than GM.

Maybe there are still some smart Americans out there.

Toyota's rise to the top over the past decade is an amazing business story. However, they did it by abandoning its core principals of building bullet-proof, high quality extremely durable vehicles.

Since the US generates 2/3 of Toyota's profit, I'm sure that TMC is very concerned. Now that many of Toyota's top US executives have either left or retired, it's going to be a tough haul over the next few years.

Toyota started it's mistake by trying to copy the big three, most powerful engine worst on gas biggest... With the gas prices its no wonder that sales are down. Now only people that need trucks will be driving them.

A GM toyota merger would be amazing, they are all ready partners trucks arnt selling Tundra or silverado toyota cant build enough priuses and they are low profit Gm struggling to import another small car to make money in the US they can benifit from each other Thier combined market share is tremendus and they both have the largest fan base.

The truck plant slowdown isn't a surprise. I'm sure all the guys getting moved to the Camry plant are bitching as we speak. (guess they'd rather be working for GM).

truckmen,
Unlike the big 3, Toyota has about 6 products it sells well and doesn't rely on just 1 vehicle like the truckguys did.
