ok, lets see. 55 mpg in the IQ with 67 hp. Or 59 mpg with 120 hp in the Audi A4 diesel... you decide.

The same argument can be said of almost any micro car. Why not compare cars of the same class?

except the A3 will cost twice as much, and diesel will cost 50 cents higher than gas.

But the a4 would hold more people in full comfort.

009, what does the Smart car get for MPG? Please remind me?

Just so you know that's the competition for this car.

M35T

The all Electric Smart car blows this out of the water. Neither are on sle yet but will be competing side by side very soon.

Personally I think the smart will be more reliable, these cars have already been tried and true and have been on sale in europe for years.

That's horrible.

The Smart gets awful mileage for what it does but with only 67hp this should still get better MPG.

MR. Agent009

What if you can't afford an A4 diesel?

Then get an A3 diesel.

Then you are saddled with either the IQ, Yaris, Fit or a number of microcars

Let's not forget higher insurance costs for the Audi, Audi's reliability record vs. Toyota's and the price tag.

You guys are unbelievable hypocrites. One second you bash hybrids for costing more money than their gasoline equivlaents then you try to compare a micro car to something that probably costs twice as much if not more?!

7.6 for the muffler and 11.2 or 14.3 depending on whether you go for the "Racing" or "Turbo" decal...
But don't forget the all-important F1-style rear wing which ads 700 kg of downforce!

What I don't get is that if they can make a car with 120 hp that gets 59 MPG, why does a 67 hp car only get 55 MPG... And it must be considerably lighter than an A4... Actually, Toyota already has a car (actually it's just a rebadged Peugeot) that does 57 MPG, the Aygo 1.4 D4-D (actually it's a peugeot HDI) And that has four doors. And it is a HORRIBLE car! My sister has a Citroen C1 and it feels like there is a rubber band on the throttle! I hate minicars...

Small cars with small petrol engines never offer the kind of super MPG that people may expect - the aerodynamics don't give good highway MPG, which is why people use them as city cars. I have a 1.4, 75hp VW Lupo, and I would never see more than 50 mpg. I don't expect it though, as city MPG is comparitively good.

I can't see why people are complaining, this is a city car, not a cruiser. 55 MPG is great. It will be slow though, I'd guess around 14 seconds to 60.

Ummmmm Agent, the Yaris Fit Accent or any of those B-segs are not mircocars. Microcrs are even smaller than the city or A class cars. A class city cars are cars such as the old Hyundai Getz or Toyota Aygo. B segment cars like the Yaris Fit or Accent are twice the size of microcars, and about a foot larger than the A class city cars popular in Europe. Park an Accent or Fit next to a Smart and you will see what Iam talking about. I see Mircocars just as test beds for new engine technogies to make the B-segment cars that get sold in the US a lot more fuel efficient in the future.
