Toyota joins race for all-electric cars
Next year will see the launch of Toyota’s third-generation Prius, and the year after that the introduction of what could possibly the world’s first mass produced plug-in hybrid, however the carmaker is also working on a third eco-friendly technology – the all-electric car.
Until now, Toyota had been reluctant to develop all-electric vehicles, but recent comments from its president confirm that the original unwillingness has changed.

The Volt is putting a little pressure on them. They thought no one else would have a good idea for a better hybrid.

Yep. Volt's unique idea of gas engine powering the batteries was pretty clever. That way...the rpm can stay at the most efficient level. (I just want to say that I've thought of that before, but I bet I wasn't the only one.)
The pressure on Toyota right now is sort of like how the new forced induction engines are much more powerful than the naturally aspirated ones.

Blow after blow, it's GM now feeling the pressure even more than ever...remember GM pulled the plug)literally) on the Saturn EV1, and regret the decision they have made in the past. Now GM will realize, that they only have less than 2 years to go back to the drawing board to make sure they can hang with the techno-saavvy big boys and not trip on the worldwide stage...and yet they still have to prove it's fuel efficient specs, let alone a truely effecient and reliable brand...which will take years to be convinced by us consumers...good luck!!!

Fatshow 50 , the big difference is the Chevy will look GOOD and the Toyota will look like a Toyota. I'll take a Volt.

craptamazing5,
I'll take the Toyota anytime seeing how they have the most successful technology in terms of Hybrids for that matter. After that massive GM recall due to "electric" problems in their vehicles, I'll pass on the Toaster Oven "The Trollt".

The last time I checked, the Prius is still the best selling Hybrid on the Market. Oh, and by the way.. Those 2 mode hybrids are a complete joke, a complete marketing ploy. "Up to 50% improvement" yeah, when you're hyper-miling. The last test done by edmunds on the Tahoe "MILD" hybrid only yeilded a 15% improvement from the gasoline model.
The recent Toyota recalls are out of the ordinary for the company and are working on improving the efficiency of their products. As for GM, Unfortunately they don't recall much.. they simply build a bunch of crap to complete their portfolio and replace models year after year. (example: Cavalier>Cobalt>Cruze>?)

While you're sitting in your mommy and daddy's basement thinking up names to call me.. GM is cancelling a bunch of models, so you might want to consider being a GM badge whore craptainamazing3.

WOW! How many "craptainamazing-losers" are there? I see a 4 and a 5.. Oh! I see.. Just like GM you just create the same Crap alias with a different number at the end.. HA HA HA. Can you spell (L) (O) (S) (E) (R)?
