Toyota planning a hybrid RAV4

Amidst the burgeoning sales of hybrid mobility in the US market, which alone has already reached beyond the million mark, Toyota is in quite a comfortable position as leader of the gasoline-electric vehicles segment in the world, and the latest 2010 Prius is quite ready to strengthen that position even more.



It is widespread knowledge that the Japanese carmaker has its sights on creating a hybrid variant for every model that it produces. It isn’t quite unusual therefore to hear that the carmaker is in the process of creating a hybrid RAV4, which the company has said it will make available in the Chinese market soon with a high likelihood of it appearing in American markets also.

I don't think there will be a RAV-4 V6; The Venza already takes care of that. Toyota will be smart if they offer their new fuel efficient 2.7L I4 with a little boost in power. I hope Toyota goes back to five seats. A hybrid RAV-4 would be next to pointless - the cost would most likely override that of a nicely equipped Venza V6. They better make this thing no bigger than the Tiguan, or else they'll be killing their own market.

The V6 gets almost the same fuel economy as the weaker 4cyl. The 4cyl is pointless as it is noisy, the larger 2.7 will only add "roughness" to the mix and offers fuel economy on par with the ultra smooth and powerful 6cyl.

A hybrid is pointless, they should put the money where it realy matters, NVH. Rav4 feels and sound thin, noisy, bumpsteers over broken payments, feels poorly built, rattles and squeaks due to cheap hard plastics used throughout. A loaded Rav4 cost more than a base 4runner. Just get the superiorly built 4runner.

i rather liked the original rav4. the current one has grown a little too big but I guess it has something to do with safety.

interesting that they plan to release it in the China market.

and MAYBE in the u.s. later. they obviously see china as surpassing the u.s. as the #1 market for new cars.
