Toyota says Prius already exceeds Japan’s 2015 fuel economy standards
Seems like Toyota will always be ahead of the game. As Japan toughens up the fuel economy standards and Toyota has announced that the Prius hybrid has already met these new 2015 fuel efficiency procedures.

Under Japans previous 10.15 mode test, the Toyota Prius manages a whopping 35.5 km/l (83.5mpg in the US). Of course, this was looked into by many who thought this was unrepresentative of what the Prius typically achieves...

Just imagine how the actual 2015 model will fare. Will diesel fuel still be available by then? Will clean versions of diesel engines finally be on sale by then?

By 2015, the Prius would have hit well over 100mpg. Then theres plug in hyrbids, newer diesels, new engine marvels, yup the future of gas saving cars, looks good.

It really is a good thing for all other automakers that Japan's government didn't sit down with Toyota engineers to come up with the new standards...

The JC08 standards remind me of the US's previous EPA standards, except it is even more optimistic. Why tie it into MPG, if it is not going to be real-world accurate.

Funny that Japan had to recreate their tests inorder to make the Prius perform worse.

Who knew hybrids were so super efficient in the city? It's sort of unfair that they don't require gas to run in the city. The Prius should just be banned outright for making the rest of Japan's cars look so bad.

Oh yeah, the Prius already meets Europes 2014 standards too. I bet if they had put in a V12 diesel, they could've met the 2020 standards.
