Toyota set to cut Tundra production
Toyota is considering trimming production at its new pickup truck assembly plant in Texas, the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun reported.
The plant, scheduled to open in November, has an annual capacity of 200,000 units, but Toyota is targeting to make 150,000 pickups in 2007, the report said.
Toyota will double its orders for passenger cars to 200,000 from Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., the U.S. production subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Co., from October 2007, the report added.
Separately, a Toyota spokesman said the U.S. division did not expect 10% to 12% sales growth in 2007, a level consistent with growth rates in recent years, according to reports.
Although not formal target was given the spokesman said the automaker was expecting U.S. sales growth more along the lines of 3% to 5%, according to a Reuters report.
Toyota's U.S. sales are reported to have risen 11% this year.
Toyota is on track to surpass General Motors as the world's largest automaker by volume next year.

are you kidding? that has to be the best Tunrdra i've seen ever. It has a good agressive stance without looking to overbearing, and the interior is worlds beyond anything i've seen in most trucks. I'm kind of dissapointed they're cutting back production, but we'll just have to see how sales are.

Oh, and M53R, you probably haven't seen *any* on the street since this is the new Tundra and doesn't even start production until November. So tell me, where did you see one?

tundra also has the best resale value in its class. and decreasing in production will prob only increase its residual value close to the 70% mark

they woulnd't have to cut production if they could be the first on the block to make a fuel efficient full size truck....

I didn't read the article but it sounds like they're planning ahead.

They see weak F150 sales, so why ramp up production of the new truck. Instead, they're increasing CAmry production at the Subaru plant.

To me, it's just reorganizing production to meet demand. Also, the higher your sales volume, the slower your growth will be (10% of 1000 is easier to obtain than 10% of 2 million).

But yeah, the new truck isn't very pretty. The nose is too big.

There isn't such thing as a good-looking truck, guys; it's nothing of the sort. I'm pretty sure all trucks are "agressive", jeffy, and I'm not a truck person. It's just another design...nothing new here...move along...
