Toyota to Increase Imports to Meet Demand for Prius

The Toyota Motor Company will sell more imported vehicles in the United States this year, Toyota officials acknowledged Friday, even though the company has begun building Camry sedans at a Subaru plant here to replace those built in Japan.



Toyota’s imports will rise because it expects a significant increase in sales for the hybrid-electric Prius, which it builds only in Japan, said James Lentz, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A.

He estimated that Toyota’s total imports would probably rise by about 25,000 this year, if Toyota meets its sales targets for the Prius.

Thats a half baked response that does smell of FUD.
Japan, China are no. 2 and 1 holders of US Depository reciepts..( aka treasury bills) . What does that mean ?
The reason the dollar buys what it does is because all the dollars these companies rake in goes to subsidize the american way of life... (cheap loans etc.)
So think carefully for what your wish for ;).

I was in Montreal this weekend (probably the most European city in N.A.) and noticed that they drive a lot of Prius', Yaris', Civics and Fits. I saw, if I recall correctly, 2 TDIs and 1 full sized pickup-truck.

Apparently any profits (if they exist) for American companies goes straight to the CEO while he lays more ppl off (Mulally). Yeah, good thing Ford's profits are staying in country. We should probably support Ford and GM's efforts to building more cars in China, Korea and Mexico. After all, those "profits" come back to N.A.
