Toyota to recall 215,020 Lexus and other cars

Toyota said today that it will be recalling 215,020 Lexus GS, Crown and three other high-end models in Japan.

The recall is due to a faulty fuel pipe that could lead to fuel leakage.

The recall covers the Crown, Lexus GS350, Lexus IS250, Lexus IS350 and Mark X sedans manufactured between December 2003 and December 2005.

Toyota will recall another 49,000 Lexus models in the United States...

LexusKing600, since when has Lexus been the world's number one luxury car maker? Lexus is an upstart luxury car wannabe but has not yet been able to match the unique front seat features and comfort of the Mercedes S-Class or the rust-free aluminum body and superior Quattro AWD (with Torsen differential) of the Audi A8. Looks like the Lexus marketing boys have twisted your perception of luxury a bit. I predict that Hyundai will overtake Lexus with cars like the coming Genesis RWD sedan. Hyundai is putting a lot more thought into its designs than Lexus. The Genesis RWD sedan will have LSD which the big Lexus does not even offer as an option.

Toyota has in fact tried to AVOID admitting recalls in the past. They are too worried about their reputation and not the quality of their products. It's the other way around--make better cars again, and the reputation will come later; just don't rest on it. That's what they're doing now. They're resting.

EnnNorak, you are right. LexusKing600 & Lexus Admirer probably are misinformed lost souls. They might even be employed by the Japs. Funny how the deceit continues with the Lexus 600h. They try to make it appear that is a 600 with a 6 liter V12 like the Mercedes, when in fact it is just a V8 with an electric motor and falls way short of V12 power. I'll bet hese guys can't name one useful technology that the Japs have introduced that hasn't been done before by someone else. Four-wheel steering cannot count. It has been rejected by the marketplace as an expensive and unnecessary feature.

No car company is God when it comes to building cars. And everybody has recalls, even Lexus. Other company's have had it worst. And what counts is how do they compare to each other? And I believe Lexus would be on top along with some others. Perfection can never be achieved ... you can only work hard to get closer!

Has anyone ever noticed how many cars German brands have recalled in Europe over the past couple years?? No?? Me neither, at least not here on GermanSpies. But I could sure tell you about every Toyota recalled, whether for slipping floormats or loose cupholders, whether the cars were recalled in the US, Europe, Japan or Antarctica. Do a little Google search to find out about the hundreds of thousands of cars that are recalled around the world that we dont hear about here.

Evidently a few of these in the latest recall are American, but most of the 215,000 are cars from Japan. And of course that is the headline number that sells.

Just a little context is needed, thats all.

i drive an 07 lexus is350, an 02 honda civic and an 06 honda cbr 1000rr..

the cars are stock and the bike has full akro exhaust, power commander and intake...

i dont know if they are considered "rice burners" but maybe you can let me know

idiot redneck types who demean "rice burners" are totally ignorant of the extent to which rice burner BIKES totally dominate the industry, world wide! most competitors DON'T EVEN TRY to match jap bike engines anymore. (only exception being latest bmw sport bike)

if/when japanese car makers gain a similar edge, they will dominate on 4 wheels as they do the 2-wheeled world. of course, there will also be more resistance.

Better than the majority of german cars and feeling responsible toward their customers.I've done the same comment when BMW had recalls and the comment was bossted 11 times. Where is the problem? LEXUS is among the best brands. Let the competition continue.

Yeah, Lexus probably has the "least recalls" because when they find the problem on a Toyota that's badged as a Lexus in the US, they can easily fix it, then change the faulty issues on the respective Lexus models. That's how it works, apparently.

Lexus are far from perfect. I'm sick of how the idiotic Lexus fanboys on this site seem to think their cars are "perfection". Yeah right...

But the thing is, Bill, it's JUST this site. On all other enthusiast sites--whether it's for BMWs, Audis, Lexuses or Mercs--fans can always admit faults in the cars they own and the cars "their" companies release, and encourage them to fix those problems. No sane person on those other sites says their car is perfect.

its not suprized that your 07 hasnt "missed a beat". its a year old. my 02 civic has 106,000 miles and i just did the timing belt (it was about time). NOTHING has ever gone wrong. not only is it 6 years old, but it has the mileage of a car from last millenium

More aftermath from the bad years.

I wonder why the featured article didn't mention that the recall reason is that fuel pipe could could corrode and leak. Instead, it makes it sound as though the fuel pipe will just pop out and spray gas all over the place. 39 complaints would probably be ignored by everybody else.

Who knows though, maybe BMW gets their fuel pumps from the same supplier. You can ignore all the engine recalls since it's already been covered previously. Note that the recalls all have to do with safety (for each model, 7000+ units), not some dumb floormat.

S4cabriofoxone, I am sooo jealous of you, what a great car you have. I must correct you though, GM dropped the Quadra-Steer option from their trucks a couple of years ago. It was the only application of the technology that had any real merit. It really was beneficial for truck owners that towed trailers. But, at a cost of about 4k, it was rarely ordered. Overall, however, I am impressed by your comments about the industry.

it is a whole different COMPANY.
